Just a suggestion, and sorry if it's been mentioned before.

after the stupid names arising from recently booted folks and the amount of spam being produced from people who want to advertise non bike crap, would it be an idea that all people wanting to sign up of the BCF pay say, a pound through pay pal?

that way we would have less morons on the site and korn would get some assistance in paying for the sites upkeep.

if someone wanted to be a member, they would pay and if someone wants to play silly buggers korn still gets paid anyway.

Maybe an annual subscription for people with low karma i.e after one year of being signed up your karma is below 4 greens you have to pay for another year or have your subscription revoked.

Keep up the good work Korn Very Happy Thumbs Up

Some how I don't think paying a pound is going to put many people off.

I think it will stop a lot of people signing up TBH. If Korn really wanted money from us all he could easily stick up a Paypal donation link.

introducing a decent captcha system would keep people from botting the signup and introducing a mandatory seven-day minimum period between sign-up and the first time you're allowed to post would deter 90% of the lamers. As with all systems design, you have to assume that if a system can be abused then it will get abused.

For money, a voluntary donation that provides you with a little star, icon or the ability to pick a custom title would probably do the trick.

I'm not sure how flexible phpbb is, but I'm certain it's perfectly feasible to implement some or all of those features. It really depends on how much time and effort people are willing to spend on it.

I'd gladly volunteer to help, but php isn't my thing.

Having to use Pay(through-the-nose)Pal will, though. Thumbs Down

Actually I think it would put 99% of site visitors off. The forum definitely gets better as you use it over time, why would a one-time visitor who might have become a regular otherwise pay a pound, when they can go to Visordown and post to more people for free?

If people had to pay for using a forum, they'd feel they had a right of saying how it was run, as if they had a share in it, and I don't think that'd work,
