Anybody work in this sector? Out of curiousty if someone filled in an application form/there CV and stated that they had a clean license, no criminal record...do companys actually double check this to see if the person is telling the truth or not?

When I worked at corus we had a guy work there for about 9 months and he had a criminal record longer than his arm.

Eventually got fired for stealing stuff(Only after this did they check his record) and was caught on the premises 2 weeks later breaking into cars.

In my experience it seems to be coming more & more common place that employers are performing background checks (e.g. criminal records etc..)

Unless they are a specific agency, i.e. Police, Probation, Social Services etc etc, they cannot check it. What type of job is it?

So every employer can get a criminal record check then? I think not, thats why I mentioned specific agencies.

I'm in HR. Any company can apply to become a member of the CRB and carry out checks for a nominal fee. Doesnt matter what work it is.
