Have you downgeared your bike?

If so, by how much?

Thinking about making my bike a bit more lively by doing this. How many teeth would you recommend going down/up?

I've heard so many people say this is the best mod they've done to their bike so I'm seriously tempted.

Also, how easy is fitting a speedo healer - I'm a bit scared of electrics

The Bandit was one tooth down on the front for a while. Didn't notice it being any more pokey, although it did do about 5mpg worse.

If you want a noticeable difference, +2/-2.

I think sports 600s from the 98-2002 kinda era got more of a benefit from it.

Definitely worth a try I reckon - if you stick to going up and down the same amount, it's not a big problem to go back to standard sizes.

Another popular mod for 600s is to use a 520 pitch chain; don't know if it does do much, but should slightly improve pickup/acceleration.

Speedohealer is as easy as finding the plug for the speedo and plugging the healer inline with it.

On my old CBR600FS I had -1/+5 was only suited to around town riding not for motorway trips because it kept the revs quite high. Was a good blast though and no I wasn't stunting it lol.

I'm thinking of doing -1 on the front to my R1 when I get round to sorting out a new chain and sprokets.

I've thought about it, it seems like a good way to keep my licence. Nobody needs to do 140mph on the road, so you might as well get a bit more omph.

I would love to go that speed but never on public roads, maybe because 3 of my mate have been recently banned.

One for 98 in a 60 - 2months
One for 103 in a 60 - 6 months-2 years (paperwork hasn't came through yet)
One for 38 in a 30 (restricted licence and 3 points already) Licence Revoked - he has to reaply for his licence and redo a cbt/theory and test.

I haven't before, but I am considering it. I don't require a theoretical 145mph top speed for my bike's use - 130 would be enough.

mine is downgeared, and i did notice the difference a bit from the other tt600s i tried

its particularly handy for trundling at low speeds in town, and for acceleration in first. In particular its good for bikes with most of their power at high revs, as it helps you get at that power without going so fast.

i rarely do 100mph let alone 150,

somene once said, that it only affects your acceleration in first, but this isnt too, as it makes the speed ranges of all of the gears smaller (increasing acceleration)

i downgeared my zx7 and it was great on the road but i done a track day at donnington and it seemed too keep running out of revs and i was changing gear like i was on a 2 stroke

Most places that sell bike parts will sell different sized sprockets.

My last set I ordered via Hein Gericke, they get them from B&C Express. Previously I got some from Demon Tweeks.

yeah but as its been downgeared, as well as first being a lower gear for first, each gear is gonna have a smaller range, not just lower starting point

so you get through each gear quicker

for accelerating hard without going silly speeds, you might normally use 2 or 3 gears, if the bike has been downgeared, you might use 3 or 4 gears, so you have the bike in the optimum gear more of the time

But once you are out of first, you could just have started in a lower gear. No real difference. Same number of gears to go through, just numbered differently.
