Hi all. Please can someone help?
I dropped my bike (trying to put the side stand down while i was standing next to the bike without holding the clutch in & i caught the gear lever with my foot and as it engaged the bike shot forwar & fell on its side!)
I broke the indicator lens & bent the right handle bar. I removed the bar that the grip & switchgear sits on & bent it back in a vice only to find i'd cracked it open! A quick arc weld repaired it so i can use it but it's not very strong & i want to replace it.

I'm looking at 2 handle bars on ebay.
This one looks different, maybe from an older bike will it fit my 1996 GPZ500S D3 model?:

This one looks more similar to mine but is from a GPZ750R but looks almost identical to mine except the mount here obviously allows you to adjust the front suspension whereas my GPZ500s is blanked off not giving access to the top of the forks:

All i'm really interested in is the bar that the switch gear & grip fit too. Does anyone know if the GPZ750R has the same handlebar as a 1996 GPZ500S D3?

Hi

The first one looks like an early model GPZ500 bar, and is for the left rather than the right.

Would very much doubt a GPZ750R bar is the same (GPZ750R is the sleeved down version of the GPZ900R, pretty much a sales disaster in the mid 80s).

All the best

Keith

will the early GPZ500S bar be the same diameter & length as mine? I was hoping to be able to just replace the bar & keep my mount the attaches to the yoke as it's not bent or broken.

Hi

Honestly do not know. Might. But to be honest check how much a new one is. By the time you pay postage on that one it may well be cheaper to buy new.

All the best

I am not sure about the newer GPZ's but having both an older one and a GPZ900, though not both in the same place, so can't nip out and photograph them, sorry.

Assumuing that they are interchangeable, which I have my doubts, the biggest difference is the height of the bar above the yolk, which could give clearance probelms.

I can keep the mount/clamp that fixes to the top of the yoke as this isn't broken, i just wanted to unscrew the allen key bolt the screws into the side of the mount/clamp & replace the actual bar that you hold onto (the bar that the switch gear & grips slide onto & the bar end weights secure to. This is the bit that bent when it fell over. Bending it back only cracked it where it slides inside the mount/clamp. I've welded it but i'm not sure how strong it'll be.

Does anyone know where i can find a price for a brand new one?

Ring Cradley Heath Kawasaki in the morning. Chances are they will have it in stock.

It's always worth trying Bartons bike breakers in Bath if you are after a secondhand one, they only deal with liquid cooled kawasaki's and having used them myself and knowing lots of others who do i can recommend them, if you have trouble finding their phone no. let me know.
