Just a basic question after leaving college in July 2005 and getting a Distinction grade on my BTEC National diploma in Travel Operations. Ive decided id like to do the next stage up and do Tourism Managment full tim at UCLAN ( Uni of Central Lancs) full time.

Now i know im not a school lever and cna just get an application form, but you dont think ive left it too late?

nope , Universities now , have two start dates per year , Jan + Sept , you'l have missed about 3 weeks of lessons , not much and maybe have been given out assignments.

also you are 21(?) so you can jump in via the mature student route

go ride up to UCLAN (not bad Uni) , and ask , if its first year stuff it'll be alright ,

you'll be shafted if you want a loan though cus applications for that closed agaes ago.

TBH universities are businesses and they want all the biz they can get,

no you have to go to your LEA and ask for loans and stuff , I only know about the one in Bury.

I wont be living in either, no fucking point, its only 20 miles away.

Tuition fees are up to £3000 a year at the moment, though the universities want to banish the cap and charge whatever they want.

You can still apply to UCAS now for September entry, just be quick about it.

Maintenance Loan and grant could cover your travelling fees. You can get an application form from your LEA and this can still be done and filled in before April for first payment in September.

The loan isn't a massive issue if you get it sorted out sharpish, but go to www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk and see if you can apply at all.

None of mine has arrive yet, I just keep the university wolves from my door with letters from the SLC, and I'll pay them when it arrives in one big fat lump. And I'll have a nice wedge to spend on a bike.

Im afraid the deadline for applications through UCAS was the 15th of January...

You can go direct to some institutions but most like you to go through UCAS.

I think that you can get in through clearing but its harder to get in the one you want there. They just offer you courses that they think you will like.

Your gonna need £3070 a year for tuition fee's alone but im not sure what funding is available to anyone in your situation.

Its worth approaching UCAS even if its just for advice.

If your only applying to one course its £6.

Well apperantly, after my mum emailing the Course managery type person who does the Travel Management course ( My mam works at UCLAN you see) i do have to do it through UCAS.

So going to apply and see what happens.

Ad itchy im sure it'd be nice to live in with all that filthy flange, but theres someone already getting my attention round here at the moment

let us know how you get on, normally the first year isnt that important but if I were i wouldnt miss any of it,

IMO get a job, and apply to start uni for next year

university can be expensive and the loan being handy doesnt mean youll have loads of cash, your probably goin to go uni once, so if it all goes nipples and you dont get this year,

just work your socks off for a few months and save up, always handy having more drinking money,

You may have missed the equal consideration deadline but if you make the application look good chances are still decent. Heck, I handed in my application on the very last day of acceptance sometime in June (actually to the UCAS front desk in Cheltenham - took the train down after picking up my reference on the morning > <) with about 30 minutes to spare and managed to get a place.
