Where would you lot go to as a permanent move ?

I like the idea of New Zealand, or a low tax state in america, like Oregon.

A few factors affect my decision, nice weather, relatively civilised, low taxes, nice scenery and how far my money goes over there.

Where would you lot go, and why ?

Long story (but in a nut shell):

Wanted to emigrate to the US and work in LA
Passed exam
Passed initial paperwork
Got fed up waiting and being fobbed off by agent
Emailed HR, agency and attorneys that I want to quit
Regretted emailing HR and attorneys as no their faults
Job no longer available
Received final authorisation through post 2 days later
If only I had waited Brick Wall
US hospitals no longer sponsoring key workers

Oh well 2 1/2 years of my life down the drain along with more than £2k.

The greatest factor is actually "Do I qualify" which if you don't makes the rest moot.

It depends on what you want, as you always assume the grass is greener on the other side.

And you know what. . . it is. Thumbs Up

I'm really starting to consider doing it within the next 3-4 years. I've checked a couple of sites for Oz and NZ and I qualify no problem. Just got to persuade the burd that it's the thing to do. Dont think she would go to far east, Thiland, Philipeans etc although if I was single I'd go at the drop of a hat Thumbs Up

If you have trade papers and a couple of years experience they you'll get in no problem.

I've got plans to vanish off by 2013,

I've enough points to go to Canada , Aus , NZ though NZ ans Aus tightened up their entry requirements such that I'd have to go there on an entrepanuer's permit instead.

I like these 3 places as there is plenty of space and a society which shares common British values,

Slightly closer to home , having spent time in Germany its a good place to live , in Europe taxes are of course higher but you see things for your taxes , unlike the Uk where they are spent on non jobs and dole payments.

I've often thought about moving to some remote uninhabited bit of land somewhere off the coast of Scotland.I'd do it too if it wasnt so bloody cold.

Colin1 - Have you considered places like Andorra and Lichenstein, there considered tax havens, although there would be a possible language barrier. I am hoping to move to Oz within the next 5 years, although other countries have taken my fancy, certain Scandinaivian countries as well as Japan.

I am going to the czech Republic to live with my girlfriend, while she studies for her medical exams. Just bought a flat for £30000 outright. That will be finished in March.

Got £10000 in the kitty so that will last me for a long time, as it is cheap as chips out there. Also just doing a TEFL course so I can teach English out there. Alos learning Czech, which apparently is quite handy out there.

So I will probably be living out there for about 3 to 4 years, then we will live here and I can sit back and enjoy life in England while the girlfriend works as a doctor and I ride on the Augusta MV.

Cant wait! Thumbs Up

Colin, you do realise you have to buy expensive Health Insurance in America? Our taxes do include quite a bit actually. Unfortunately far too many people forget and think emigration is the answer, it isn't always and I can fully understand that Britain is going down the pan, but I live in hope that things will change as I do love Britain.

Since I came back my time away backpacking, I've been thinking more and more about moving abroad.

I enjoyed the states but don't think I could live there full time.
I found New Zealand a really fantastic place but it just felt a little empty, like even some of the bigger cities are only really like small towns over here.
SE Asia was fun but I was glad to leave after a few months, so don't think I could move there.
OZ is the place that I enjoyed the most, Brisbane or somewhere along the Gold Coast would do me nicely. Anywhere inland was full of inbreds.
But then I start to think about how far away it is and that it would be really expensive when I had to fly back for weddings, funerals ect.
I'm half Italian and have lots of family in the south of Itaily which is a wonderful place, but I don't think it offers a lot of job opportunities.
So I'd probably end up working for peanuts.

Then I think well f*ck it, I may aswell stay here in this dull little country and take lots of holidays.
Smile

On another note I had an email from an aussie friend I met over there, I've joked about all aussies being conficts in the past.
He sent me a link to a news artical about the overcrowding in prisons in the UK.
saying something along the lines of
gooday mate,
saw this artical and thought about when you said we were all convicts. Looks like the tables have turned now. You've got so dam many you don't know what to do with them all.
Just make sure you don't send them over here this time.
ps. have you been watching the cricket recently?

What am I suppost to say to that? Laughing its official our country sucks. Sad
