Get whatever you want. No one can make that decision for you. We can give you an opinion but it's entirely up to you to make that choice.

Go for the Gixxer if you feel you can handle it straight off or go for the Blandit if you don't feel you can.

Out of the two choices the Bandit is definatly the sensible choice but who says you have to be sensible.
Im 20 and ive got a 99' zx6r and ive had a Hornet before. Power wise the zx6r obviously has more but its not a massive diference and ive found it in no way difficult to control. Ive never ridden a Gixxer but im sure its fairly similar.
If you've got your heart set on a Gsxr then definatly go for it. You'd probably get bored of the Bandit after a while anyway. I know i did with my Hornet after about 6 months.
If you take it easy for the first couple of months theres no reason why you couldnt be comfortable on a litre bike. Several people off the forum have from what ive read.
Have fun in looking around anyway Thumbs Up

negative thinking will make you drop it.
buy faired and make sure you dont.
It all depends how you like to ride, how far and how often..
the choice is yours, as soon as you decide go out and try a few bikes, seek advice about them, running costs, and handling but other than that its up to you.

if you wanted a gsxr since you were 10, get one. if you don't you will still want one and endup with one anyway, save the hastle. bare in mind uinsurance.
I always wanted a gpz900r and it was my second bike.

GSXR 100%.

I went from a rs125 to a gsxr600 and my mate went for a bandit.

After 2 weeks - he wanted a gsxr too.

That has seen a few people dead because they wanted to ride a bike much faster than they had the skill to.

Be aware that a recent GSXR600 can go very, very fast - ridden well they will be up the arse of a similarly well ridden litre bike in a lot of situations.

So, if you're going to go for it, be sure you've got enough self-control to not go all-out until you've got more experience under your belt.
Getting to 100 in the time it takes other vehicles to get to 40 does seem cool initially, but the next corner that needs to be taken at 35 isn't so great Smile.

Were it me, I'd be tempted to go for a bit older and cheaper model.

Why limit yourself to Suzukis?

because i love um!!!! and they look the dogs!

like i said before ive allways wanted 1, i do understand that its gunna be quick!

maybe your right on getting a cheeper older 1 first it does make sense! last thing i want is a dead 3k bike! im very tempted to just get a cheep 500 for like 500 quid and just get used to the power before! i dont have to keep it long after all!

You could go half way and get an SRAD - can pick ok ones up for £1500 if you're careful.
Go for a mechanically sound but tatty one and you won't be so bothered if you drop it, but will still have all the 'fun' bits Smile.

I got bored of my GS in about 3 weeks but I think I learned some valuable lessons that I will be able to take onto a bigger bike.

Getting on a 500 from a 125 was scary enough for me (Physically) but now I'm using to it and have been manhandling a 240KGish Deauville no problems!

He asked us to make a decision. I should of put "Get whatever you think you should."

It's his decision.

To be fair, he was asking for advice from people that have not only 'been there', but have had seen plenty of other people that have been in the same situation.

G, I cannot see where he was asking for the opinion of someone who has 'been there'.

He's basically saying he wants the GSXR but everyone else says to get a Bandit as everone drops their first big bike.

I wonder about these people "getting bored" of a bike thats faster than most cars, within a few weeks.

Seems to me they are only into going fast in a straight line?

Buy the Gixer.

If you don't you may still constantly be looking at them and drooling. This may only make you dissapointed with any other bike which you buy as an alternative.

Wise words from G. Buy an older one if you are concerned about splashing out a lot of money on your first big bike.

You have experience on a bike already so you are not a complete novice. Remember though that this bike will get you to high speeds much more quickly than a 125cc. It's easy to go quickly in a straight line. For a while after you first get the bike (when you're actually riding the bike) and start to nail it try to remember how gutted you would be if you didn't make that next corner, smashing up your bike, losing any no claims which you have and be unable to afford/get insurance on another bike for a quite a while. Also more importantly how your family/friends would feel if you were seriously injured or killed. It happens .

cheers.

I don't even know why I am wasting my time because I know you'll get the Gixxer. However don't under-rate a Bandit, they are definitely fast enough to catch you off guard. Depending on the rider can definitely keep up with older sports 600's at least and easily keep with the pack in the intermediate group of a track day. The acceleration and top speed is of course not as high as a GSXR; however how often are you going to buzz about at 130MPH anyway?

The thing with the Bandit also is you can buy a cheap one with reasonable mileage and sell it at the same price or for a profit. I've had my Bandit 2 years and I am not bored of it. Done fast road riding to track days on it. Just about to do a tour on it. I'm not as fast as everybody else but I don't care, I can still cream a BMW Z4 that thought I was going to be a push over.

Just another spin on the situation for you to think about.
