Cassette Adaptors?

Bought the missus a Creative Zen+ for her Bday... She'll want to run it in her car so I thought the best idea would be to get a cassette adaptor...

Are there any difference in quality between brands or are they all much of a muchness? Looking to get the best I can afford.

Mine is a Technick one (I think) from Tesos, cost me about £5 and has always been perfectly adequate.

Not in use at the moment though cos I changed my car to one with a CD player built in...... bad idea.......... so I'm currently looking at these gadgets that transmit a radio signal from your mp3 player to your car radio. Anyone got anything good/bad to say about those?

My Blaupunkt has an aux connection round the back of the unit. I just bought a lead that plugs in there with a jack on the other end for the mp3 player. Works great. I think it was £6.

I've got a couple of the FM transmitters, one for the shed pc to transmit to the hi-fi and one in the van as well. They're pretty good, only problem i have is that when playing through my phone you can get a bit of iterferance when you get a call/text/etc. Advantage over using the CD player head unit is it won't jump.

cassette adaptors lose quite a lot of sound quality, and for a fiver, they arent good value really. Id get one for a quid if i saw one.

But short range fm transmitter things are much better

it can be run off batteries for home use, or the cigarettelighter socket i n a car

if you want the best you can afford, and you can afford a tenner, i reckon an fm transmitter is much better than the cassette things

The cassette adaptors (in my experience) are better than the radio transmitter widgets.

All you need to remember is leave your MP3 player on medium volume NOT max volume as this will overload the magnetic transducers in the adaptor and the tape deck. This will cause distortion and crackling.

Leave the MP3 player on medium volume and use the car stereo to make the music louder, and I would say that it would easily be better quality than an FM Transmitter (which I think are illegal anyway!).

If you go for a transmitter chose the ones that plug into the cigarette lighter rather than battery powered ones. The batteries don't last five minutes on them. Thumbs Down

sound quality on tape adaptor things isnt good, you lose bass and treble so have a thinner sound.

fm transmitter defineitly much better

Transmitter is no longer illegal, however it isnt all that.

There is a lot of interference, and you will find if you were to tune it to around the 107.5 fm, you would get a much better signal due to lack of interference by similarly based radio stations!

My iPod Belkin, FM transmitter works really well, and plugs into th ciggerette charger, thing is, it then gets in the way of my knucles when i change gear.

So now I am trying to sell the little fucking thing!! Really shit-hot it is and cost me some big bucks too. Crying or Very sad

Sound quality depends on rather a lot of things, not least your own hearing. So the bickering over one person saying this sounds good, another saying that sounds good is really rather pointless.

A direct comparison of all three methods (cheap wired, expensive wired, transmitter) with the same music in the same car with the same people listening is the only valid case study.
