I'm considering shopping in my Bandit for a Honda CB1?

They look so good and look like they would be really great fun, sure the appeal of a bigger engine is good, but the thought of ragging the nuts off a 400cc is really tempting, would end up with lots of money left over after the sale of a relatively new Bandit.

Downgrading at 18, i'm odd.

I think it's cause it's so darned easy to lose your licence these days i'd prefer the feeling of revving a bike and generally not getting any as quick as I would on a large capacity bike. Any idea how much horse-power a CB1 puts out?

Are they quite light? I think i'd need to test ride one first.

Realistically it would not be much slower on the road. Although it is one reason I like the RS125, in that you can really thrash the knackers off it without actually going that fast.

may not actually be lighter, but will carry its weight lower either way.

Make sure you get a good one as they are getting on a bit now, and a lot of them will be winter hacks or have been courier bikes I suspect.

If you get a nice one you'll be pleased I expect, as the Bandit is heavy and a little lardy.

The CB1 will be much more sprightly in corners I would have thought.

I've seen a lovely red CB1 up in Bradford with only 23,000km on the clock for £1,499. I noticed that there aren't that many about to be honest, but there are some nice ones. Reckon I could get about £3000 tops for my Bandit, it's the S version, only 7,000 miles on the clock, Meta alarm, alphadot, new tyres etc.

Insurance should theoretically be cheaper.

erm, that's a cb400 superfour. A cb-1 is different is it not?

Anywho, I've ridden one of them. Buzzy little thing it was too!

090's and they handle quite well.

That isn't a CB1

thats a CB400 SuperFour, which is a better and newer bike. It even looks a bit CB1100 ish!

Go for it if it isn't a dog though!

Whoops, see; I am still a complete n00b to this whole biking malarkey after 3 years!

I just put in CB and 400cc into biketrader and it came up with that! Oh well, I love the look of the superfour! Is it a good bike?

CB1 is the earlier thing using a Triarm lump in a vaguely GS500 looking package (but prettier). Prefer the looks of the superfour but both have potential to be good bikes in my view. Better chassis and build quality than the bandit for sure.

Great little bikes - I'd quite happily trade a Blandit for one.

A couple of mates have them - alot of fun when you stay on the right kind of roads (sub-100mph) and seem almost uncrashable - gaffa tape the throttle open and hunting down much larger machinery is all part of the appeal.

Plus, only problems seem to arise around the age of the thing and the usual Honda reg/rec problems. I guess couriers use them for a reason....

Get one for under a grand, sort the suspension and get some sticky tyres and you're laughing. Even sound good with a louder can on them. I also prefer the better bottom end/midrange to the wheezy Gullarm I once owned.

Jammy G's dad has one and it'll keep up with mine. I think superfours had Vtec on the later ones and sound really really nice and chimey. They look uber cool in a retro way and won't pop a bollock riding it compared to the bigger muscle bikes. If i remember correctly, they push out 50 odd and are good for about 110-120? This is also the dilemma i'm facing. Should i sell my 250 because i thrash and rev it and have fun and get a 600 that will be more run of the mill and nothing really special

My mate has a cb1, with the baffles out and it sounds evil, he has put 20,000 miles on it and its done 54,000 and not a single problem. £600 of e bay it cost. Personally i like a bigger bike and a bit of faring for motorway trips. And a smaller Engine dose not make you less lightly to loose your licance, you just rag it more. But it is more fun just not quite the buzz pulling it out of the corners.

I've got a CB-1, which was reccommended by Davo, and i have no regrets! Absolutely wickid little bike.

I got a slightly tattier one becasue i've bought it to Uni but, as mentioned, i've kept up with many a larger bike through the twisties on it because you can just nail the throttle so much!

It's got a nice bit of power to it but not too much that it's going to get ya license lost (not too quickly anyway!)

My only gripe would probably be tank range, tis a ballache even on relatively short journies.

Given a choice between a 600 bandit and a superfour, I'd have the superfour.

It has a bit of character, is ultra reliable and they ride really nicely, you've got to rev them hard but they reward you when you do.
