OK, here goes.

What insurance company would you avoid out of principle and why?

Me? Probably e-bike insurance. I don't like the thought of the whole internet thing and I have heard they don't have brilliant customer service when it comes to complaining, though i'd be delighted if somebody had a good experience with them.

E-sure. Any company that would use Micheal Winner in their adverts must be desperate.

Norwich Union, because I was hit by one of the drivers and they took ages to settle and were generally useless.

Wont touch them for any sort of insurance regardless of whether they are cheaper.

Esure because of the Michael Winner thing

Swiftcover because they seem to think that not being able to speak to a real person on the phone is a selling point

Norwich Union because they used to quote me phone numbers to insure a Micra

Hastings Direct, there terms & conditions are ludicrous. You have to be 21 first and are allowed no modifications! and lots of others that just annoy me.

pretty much any company that sells policies for a group of companies so they get a commision fee. to name but a few-
bennets
hastings direct
motorcycle direct

find insurance companies that are independant and you're quite likely on to a winner where you can get a good quote.
worked my cbr400 insurance down from 800tpo to 450tpft Smile

Majority of advertised insurance companies are brokers so do this.

Some do seem to take a ridiculous cut; when they offer a policy with the same insurer for twice as much as another broker

Norwich union,

They wouldn't quote me happy with the bike, unlike their ad in yellow pages implied, and when i got a quote, it was 3 times everyone else.

On another note, If anyone comes across Tailored Motor Solutions,
(AKA TMS) steer clear, they have a call back policy that means fuck all,
are ok with the claim etc, then stall like fuck when it comes to sending the cheque. Thumbs Down

yes that was the problem i was having. the stupid quotes can really be off putting when you're riding the high of passing your test and having the big bike option.

most bike magazines are littered with pages dedicated to insurance company advertisements. all you need do is find the ones who aren't brokers.

Brokers do tend to be most competitive for me.

Presumably insurance companies will offer the best discounts to an organisation that may arrange 1000 policies through them or whatever.

The trick of course is to find the ones that 'work' for you.

Who's good in your experience G?

I always get silly quotes, so I went for E-Bike on a monthly basis to get fast NCB.

Ditto. I had a pish experience with them. I just renewed my policy with MCE this year who matched their quote and even speaking to them over the phone i felt much more appreciated than i did with the moneygrabbing bastards at E-bike Mr. Green

I personally went to ebike because of my experience with MCE Confused - they wouldn't actually accept the online quote I did with them because they couldn't 'match' it - and then tried to fob me off with various crap excuses.

Normally I go for the cheapest, but I have been drawn to the PAYG and flexibility of ebike - gone through about 5 bikes on one policy in a year, reckon it has saved me money in the long run.

Norwich Union. Prices are expensive, and when I got hit in the car they took ages to sort it out. I ended up sorting it out completely with the other drivers' insurance because they just weren't doing anything. Then, 6 months later, they phoned up to start the claim when It'd been sorted for months!

Utterly useless, please don't go with them. There's nothing to be happy about if you go with NU.

I'm with NU via Aquote, when a driver hit me insured by them they offered me fek all compo.. gotta be a good sign if they're on your side.. right?

I'd avoid bennets, they can damnwell pay actors for their comercials, cheapo scanks.

agree with E-sure + michael winner = Thumbs Down

generally I go with whoever is cheapest, tpft, don't intend on claiming, even if bike was stolen/burnt, I'd lose my NCB and they save me more than the bike's worth. tpft was £10 more than tpo.. so gave myself the option should I change my mind.

Churchill's, gave me a good rate on insurance then phoned me back to say they are going to have to increase it as I have been out of the country for more than 6 months Laughing Thumbs Down

I'm a fan of ebike and evan myself, always good prices for me, you can have up to 4 bikes/vans and 4 riders/drivers on one policy. When you need to change stuff it's just a few clicks of the mouse, any time day or night, no annoying people in call centres saying "sorry how do you spell that?"

I phoned up choice quote the other day, some guy answered and said there was no-one to give me a quote and if I left my number they'd call me back. Rolling Eyes
Fuck that, I said, and hung up

Bennets, for the simple reason that they're ridiculously expensive. Norwich Union (for the car) for the same reason.

I've never yet found anyone that's actually been 'quoted happy' by them. Christ knows where they get their pricing structure from. Rolling Eyes

E-bike insurance, they were an absolute nightmare when i had to claim with my last bike, and the complaints was terrible.

They also offered me the most expensive renewal quote by far.

They sent three serperate companies to come and collect my bike for a start. I was worried where it had gone.

Cunting ZENITH!!!

For the 3rd consecutive year, they are charging me around the £3000 mark for insurance (due to accidents) and now they're refusing to pay out for my written off Rizla bike because i didn't declare the 'paintjob' as a modification - despite telling the operators on ALL 3 OCCASIONS that it had a paintjob - only to be told 'It Din't Count.'

Drag the fucking tapes out and lets all listen!!!!

(Without this money - i cant get another bike)

Used to work at an insurance firm, they wont let you listen to the tapes as often you can hear other conversations/personal details in the background.

You can however insist on a transcript of the call, which legally they have 40 days to supply or put themselves in line for a £5k fine.

Transcripts can take a full day to type out as every cough/sniff/belch etc must be recorded Wink

Have you contacted the insurance ombudsman? Every referal to them costs the insurance company a fixed fee regardless of who is right, and I can't see your paintjob affecting anything but the theft risk Confused
