An Eventful Morning

Well - yesterday was an interesting morning .......

I was riding into work as normal yesterdayand part of the road is a 3 lane 30mph limit (allthough you would have thought it was a 40 the way most people go down there - it is open and no houses etc about). The Left hand lane becomes a left turn lane after about 1/2 a mile and the middle/right hand lane are straight ahead. So I'm heading down here and there is only 1 other car on the road in the middle lane doing about 25. I'm in the right hand lane doing about 35. I start to overtake the car - as I'm level with the drivers door I see the cars indicator start to flash and it suddenly starts to move over at the same time.- f*** !! I immediately nail the throttle and move right. However at theat exact moment I must have just been about to change into third as I get going the front wheel lifts into the air - oh and I think there was some horn involved. I got very close to the central reservation and her car! So I'm furious (and doing about 70 now and trying to slow down!) so I start my normal cursing and waving at her. When we get to the next set of traffic lights I'm sat there looking round so I can have words with her and I can see her approaching behind. There is now a fair bit more traffic around. I turn myself round to look at the car. All of a sudden this car swerves left - crosses all the lanes narrowly missing 2 other cars and goes into the left hand turn lane - no indicator this time!

At this point something kicked in, in my brain. I know the local roads so I headed to the next set of lights and made a left to head her off. I found her a bit later a queue. I then followed her for about 5 miles until she pulled into a supermarket - hid the bike round the corner where I could see her car and got on my mobile and rang the police. About 10 min later a patrol car comes into the car park and I wave him over. I explain to him what has happened and he says not to worry - he'll sort it out. So there is now me and a patrol car staking the car out. Eventually the woman returns with her shopping. Officer the drives over there and slams the cuffs on her and puts her in the car. Comes back over to me and explains that she is a disqualified driver - third time she has been caught! He asks me if I can spare the time to give a statement - so I follow him back to the station.

Gave my statement and at the end he says 'come and have a look at this'. He takes me into a room with a video and he has the CCTV footage of the 2 events. From the video evidence I can say it was close - but the wheelie looked damn impressive - the cop even said so(unfortunately he couldn't give me a copy!). How she missed the 2 cars she almost hit I don't know - she was even closer to hitting them than she was to hitting me.

On the bright side though that's another scumbag off the road

Well done for following her and ringing the police rather than loosing your temper and having a benny at her (which is probably what I would have done )

Nice one shows what kind of scum are on the road though, sounds like it was pretty close. Makes you wonder will she get another ban that she doesnt pay any attention to or will she get a proper deserving punishment.

Shame you couldnt get a copy of the video, would have been interesting to see the wheely, and the incident ofcourse.

Well to be honest I was going to 'get medieval on her arse' to start with but I realised she was a nutter and probably would have just run me over when I got near.

Particularly dissapointed about not getting the video - that was my wheelie cherry as well!!!

The cops were pretty good - from what the patrol car driver said he heard the call go out on the radio and her reg, recognised it and nailed it there as he hates disqualified drivers!!!

Solid effort , but 3rd time caught?

This really annoys me; if someone ignores a ban, even once, then they need prison. This, in my opinion at least, should be obvious for any judge or magistrate to see; that punishment has been unsuccesful, so another, more severe, and possibly more restrictive one must be used in order to keep them off the roads and keep others safe.

Great post, just highlights how much of an ass the law is. Basically its there to deter law abiding people from braking the law (which they weren't going to do anyway). Real criminals know the penalties are leanient or non existant and continue to do what they want.

Maybe after the 10th time she gets caught they might take her car off her - the law is an ass

IMO Driving whilst disqualified should be a mandatory custodial sentence.
As should persistant driving without insurance/MOT

Kudos on calling the cops. I'd be worried they'd do nothing as it was just my words against hers.

I don't think I could blame people who have no licence. It costs far too much to run a car nowadays. I mean, for a young person like me...

~£1000 car tutition
How every much for the car
£100 in tax
£50 MOT
£60 + 3 points (more insurance) for speeding.

Whereas it could cost £100 for a banger and the petrol you use.
