Is it true that you can only wear leather protective clothing instead of textile whilst doing trackdays? Confused

Just a rumour I'd heard. Thought I'd better ask first though.

Yes, it is true. They also have to be either one piece or zipped together 2 piece.

In some cases they may accept some of the 'leather replacement' style synthetics - however not all may be too clued up.

Leather has a lot better abrasion resistance most than textiles, which is important when you're might be hitting 160+, then trying to brake at full force for the next corner.

Some hosts here require non-tinted windscreens. Though, tinted visors are okay.

Why would you want to do a track day wearing textiles? Eh?

Oh and I doubt I'd trust textiles to save me much skin if I had a fast off either.

I did a track day at Donington in my HG textile/leather mix kit.

I'd heard the same that you needed full leathers, no one questioned me or batted an eyelid.

You'd have to ask the organisers of each specific track day to be sure though.

But in my experience, no, you don't.

I've also seen people on trackdays wearing full textiles (at Lydden last april), although if your going to do a trackday get some leathers (you'll be gutted if you get there just to be turned away).

I came off back in November 2005 in two piece leathers and came away with no marks (apart from a broken knuckle).

My point being I wouldn't feel safe doing a track day in textiles.

Plenty people would rather be able to do trackday in textiles than spend the thick end of £400 on a set of leathers to do a day and decide they hate it.

Abrasion resistance from 160mph isn't that big a consideration if you're nobbing round Lydden in the novice group, possibly not riding that much faster than you ever do on the road.

Lots of variables to consider. Not least that it's your own skin.

I find textiles more comfortable, although they do have the downfall of not been as protective in a high speed crash as leathers do Smile

No requirement over here to have clear screens or visors.

Really, I find my one piece to be a lot more comfortable if I'm covering a long distance, a lot less restrictive.
