odd one this.....ive just discovered ive got a kind of skin tag on the underside of my tongue, its about 7-8mm long, 20mm in from the tip to the right of the middle, its starts as a flap and quickly becomes a thin strand.its not a cut, but a definate growth. only reason ive become aware of it is i managed to bite my tongue today and this little tag has got inflamed, and now its quite uncomfortable.

should i be worried about it? my teeth are all healthy, i dont smoke and i dont get any mouth problems, so this is a bit of a first for me.

maybe its always been there, maybe its very new, i just dont know, but its bugging me like hell at the moment. Evil or Very Mad

just concerned about the possibility of an unnatural growth in my mouth Shocked so any (knowlegable) opinions appreciated.

ta.

I would suggest asking your dentist.

Sounds like you nipped the lingual frenum. That flap that runs down the middle of your tongue on the underside? If it stays enflamed go to your dentist, it could be a blocked saliva duct which isn't particularly pleasant.

It'll go down in time Wink

My son had a tongue tie, the frenulum was too tight and prevented him from sticking his tongue out and maybe has led to him having retarded speech.

Anyways, the treatment is to simply get some scissors and snip it Shocked prior to this the doctor tried breaking it with fingers Shocked , sometimes it will just 'break' if a little snug.

Dont worry, mine got a little swollen sometimes when I had my tongue piercing and soon went down in a day or 2.

Had a skin-tag under my armpit once - decided to go down the "home surgery" route on it.

Jesus H Christ on a 98 R1, did it hurt. And it bled. It hurt and bled. Then it bled some more, while it kept hurting.

Not sure I'd want to try that with my tongue. Go see a GP - they'll have a reasonably confortable and efficient way of dealing with it.

if you play about with it, it will get infected very easily due to the bacteria which builds around the teeth and gums, and will be very annoying and could affect your speech,

ergo; making you sound like a spaz

definately visit the GP, Thumbs Up
