oil on road / police matter?

Riding back home from work in Wycombe yesterday, there is a fairly steep hill ending in a T junction, traffic queues all the way up to the top, I ride past most of the traffic until I find a gap within a few cars of the junction. Come to a stop, put my foot down and it slides away before I’ve even got my weight on it. There’s only a patch of oil exactly where I stopped!! But then as we slowly move up to the junction I notice theres more of these patches of oil, obviously something has quite a bad oil leak.

Only really thought about it when I had got home, but should I have stopped and rung the police?

but then I've encountered exxon Valdez type spills on the road and nothings been done about it,

now if you see people do it deliberately like the farmers do on the Cat n Fiddle and the Holmes Chapel run , call the cops.

You can ask to be put through to the 'Traffic Dept' who may take a look at it and divert traffic if necessary, however, the likely outcome is that 'Highways Dept' will be tasked to clean it up.

I hate that junction in the cold and damp, so oil on it would be a swine...

Mind you, the pebble sized gravel outside my office almost made me lose the front yesterday. I felt the front slide out though kept it up with a dab of the foot... Smile

Gt it logged with the police or highways agency. If a report is filed and someone has an accident on it, they can claim on the council.
