Ok, as the title says I am going to need a large rucksack type thing. Something similar to to those long sports bags, but i want to be able to throw it over my shoulders while I ride, more like a rucksack.
So has anyone already got one that sounds similar to what I want?

Also, does anyone throw the handles of those long sports bags over the shoulders and make do with that? If so, whats like that?

A lot of bikers advise not using rucksacks for fear of causing back injury should the worst happen. To placate those that submit to the aforementioned prophecy I'd suggest you try a tail back and/or panniers - I bought some Oxford Hump Back Luggage from here Good Price/Service and the tail pack alone has enough room for at least a change of clothes/toiletries/etc.

If you don't fancy that then you could try Blacks who have a sale on at the moment - I picked up a small North Face Rucksack (which isn't featured in their online sale) at my local store for 20 quid a few days ago. It has a chest and waist buckle which assists in the stability of the rucksack when you're on the move and it's really comfortable whilst on the bike Thumbs Up

Don't go for a rucksack. Filled with camping gear it weighs about 20kg. It's very sketchy going into a corner with 20kg flapping around on your back. It'll be very uncomfortable if you ride anything near 50 miles, too. Go for the bike luggage Thumbs Up

Get a decent hiking rucksack for £30 or so and set the straps up, you will barely even notice it's there Cool

Never had a prob with it on me back, hanging off to get my knee down was a bit iffyer.

In some cases the backpack can also help - make sure there's nothing sharp that can come into contact with your back. A decent layer of clothes could actually help prevent your back being injured in a crash if the backpack helps to keep your back straight.

I've had an ex-army Burghen for many years now and it's good for carrying loads of stuff. Strapped it across the back of the bike going camping on Salisbury plain (no way I was going to have it on my back for a couple of hours off roading) and it handled several crashes and the like, never mind getting covered in mud etc.

A strong cargo net over a decent sized backpack is the best way to go, i did wear mine in the past, eurohikes 30litre one is very very good the best ive ever had, comfy for a couple of hundred miles at a time..

In fact depending on what your carrying imo the best thing for luggage since bags is an army kitbag (https://www.camo.co.uk/b25.htm), its very rare i bother useing the rucksac..

In fact as you can see you can stack them onto eachother, no reson if you have no pillion or top box (presumeably you dont) to have it longditudeanally so you'd still be able to filter and what have you..

Took one to download last year and as it was killing me to carry the heavy ass bag with the tent in i ended up gaffa tapeing one end and draging it there and back, easyly a mile each way (assumeing i'd have utterly fecked it) its still in tact now.. but for the price it wouldn't have mattered that much..

I'd suggest useing ratchet straps (£3?) though for anything heavy, thing with bungies is the stretch, people have been killed in the past from things bounceling loose and finding their way into the rear wheel area..

Ok i need it to fit my american football pads and helmet. So because of the shoulder pads i need it to be quite long.
The other thing is i only have a ybr 125 so would be worried about strapping shit loads to it. The good thing is that i wouldnt have to travel far.
Cant really go for a tail bag as i already have one carrying my almax. Any good online sites where i can get something like https://www.argoss.co.uk/bergens.html ?
But one that would fit my pads, also without the army camouflage and hopefully cheaper that a ton.

I have a 10+ litre rucksack really cumfy, made by 'proaction' is like a hiking one, not sure where from, was a gift, but Argos do similar, not too expensive either. If you shop around, you could get some decent ones Thumbs Up

If you want a big rucksack, you'll have a hard job finding anything better than an ex-army PLCE pattern bergen. If you need yet more space, you can buy the two 'rocket packs' that attach to the side of it.

The rocket packs also detach and can be attached to a seperate yoke either singly or together forming a smaller daypack.

Very versatile, very robust and one of the biggest rucksacks I've seen.

With 'rocket packs'

'Rocket packs' on seperate yoke

My worry was always coming off and landing up sliding down the road on my front due to the rucksack.
