Aquygen gas? (Yahoo it)

Also known as Rhode's or Brown's Gas. I was just reading about this online, although; depending on what you're looking at its described as being a hoax or the answer to all our climate/oil usage woes.

Basically, its a device you can fit to your car that takes distilled water and seperates the Hydrogen and Oxygen then squirts it into the air intake of your engine. (It's currently mostly used as a substitute for oxyacetylene, I think...)

This can (allegedly) improve fuel consumption by upto 28% (not an issue for bikers really,) increase power output (GRRRR!!) and helps the engine run cleaner.

So, any bike applications? Or is it a big fat hoax?

I only understood about one word in ten from that thread.

As far as I can gather, for all the improvement it'd be, you'd be as well strapping a couple of supersoakers aimed backwards to your bike.

Just think, you could devise a system of gears and pulleys to pump them up using the rotational motion of the back wheel... Maybe... (I'm imagining a great new leisure activity involving shooting other people on bikes with waterguns in a James Bond stylee.)

Stupid idea, although it probably would make my bike go faster, which is sad...

It's rubbish. It's the sort of thing you'd find on ebay, the fact the websites contain testimonials is a blinding statement that they're full of shit.

I would go through the website point by point, but I don't think there's any need. If it worked it'd be in use by everyone by now. I also find it hard to believe their electrolysis cell can produce 2.5litres of oxygen and hydrogen per minute.. so they've fallen at the first hurdle.

The science is sound but you need more electrical energy to split water than you get out of the process.
Not very green unless you charge your beefed up batteries with solar or similar.

True though, when you get 'testimonials' on websites you always think: "Aye right, they so wrote that themselves..."

I dare say the technology is there and I also dare say that the oil people wouldn't appreciate anyone threatening their profits.

I just want my bike to go faster. Well, not faster, if there's the merest sensation of a headwind, I'm crawling. Lorries overtake me, its embarrasing.

Its a moot point, I should just sit the rest of the test and get a bigger bike

You don't understand my logic behind calling the products you've posted links to as rubbish.

Read that thread by the guy who reckoned he could make his bike run on it, that's full of in depth answers as to why it doesn't work well.

Splitting Water into Hydrogen and Oxygen is a hugely simple electrolysis, but it's very slow and requires a lot of electricity to do. Therefore your engine supplies that electricity in the first place and the power you would get from igniting the gas produced would not return the power you firstly put in. It's simply chemistry and conservation of energy, you can't get something from nothing, bearing in mind burnt H and O returns to water...your starting product.
