What does everyone think to UK as it is now or what it will be like in years to come regarding issues like crime, racial tension, immigrants (both the legal and non legal kind) rising taxes, political correctness, the economy etc? Do people think that it will get worse, stay stagnant or improve??

I can't see it changing anytime soon.

Although I'm not sure what Tories or Conservatives would do different to Blair...

Go and learn who the other parties are and then you might also find out what they'd do if they got in power.

Here a hint, the Tories and the Conservaties would have very similar policies to each other if they got in power. Wink

st3v3, are you old enough to vote?

Hi

It is difficult to know. Perceptions are problems are probably far worse than the past. The actual problems are maybe at a different level. Much of it seems to be down to self interest groups bombarding people with distorted info.

Taxes are going up, but more to the point are far more complicated and more expensive to collect. Very wasteful (one way to reduce unemployment, pay people to do pointless tax collecting jobs).

Political correctness? Seems to be a fairly wide range of views, and the more politically correct seem to be loosing ground now.

Economy? Think we are pretty screwed. We seem to be just consuming things and not producing anything useful. There is still money generated (financial sectors for example) but not sure for how long.

Overall I think things are getting worse. Too much control. Too much petty and wasteful bureaucracy. Too much social fragmentation.

All the best

Keith

Things are going to get worse before people actually decide to pull their finger out, realize that this is all of our problem, and do something about it.

Then things will start to improve.

Too much f**king paperwork for police.

We know they're slags, they know theyre slags but we have to spend 4 hours justifying why we bought someone in. Mad

Also, crappy sentences for major crimes. That bloke who murdered the dad a few months back got 4 years or so inside.

Gated communities, county security (private), only people with the passes can get in. I’m not wrong.

IMO the religious nut jobs that are currently dividing the east with their mumbo jumbo, are for some reason affecting the social trends over here.
I was a lot happier when I didn’t hear about god fearing people, and groups who do things for a fairy in the sky.
I really wish it went back to people just doing their own thing in their own time and leaving the people who don’t care about it, alone.

I see it as lack of education from the government themselves, they don’t know how to deal with this situation and in turn it is affecting our daily way of life. As we can see from the last few years the media has a strong influence on the public, it’s a tug of war and we’re in the middle.

I don’t know the finer details but I do think something is brewing, I’ve thought for a long time now something will trigger off a reaction, not a good one, but it will sort out a few things.

New labour and new conservative, liberals will be out the window and extreme parties will be battling it out.

I reckon things are getting really bad but its hard to see it under all this political correctness.

I'm really glad that muslim soldier wasn't kidnapped and beheaded by his fellow muslims, but if the police had failed, and indeed he was kidnapped and beheaded, race/religious relations in this country would be heading down a steeper, more slippery slope than it already is.

It's a sad state of affairs.

Latest one is to fine you for not having a vehicle insured unless you have declared SORN, irrespective of whether it is on the road or not.

All the best

Wouldn't they have to prove that you were driving the car without proper insurance?

Nope. EVEN if you've got it parked on your private drive, they will fine you if it is uninsured. And impound it if you don't pay.

Doesn't seem like a bad idea, considering it will have to be SORN. If the SORN rule does not apply then it sucks.

The question is; will they inforce it?

I still see plenty of people driving talking on their mobiles.

Except SORN is another pointless rule. Makes it easy to fine those who are not causing a problem, while ignoring those who are deliberatly out to avoid paying.

All the best

OK... the UK in general. Right.

Now people suck. Soceity is rubbish and everyone is just out for what they can get - serving their own wants and beliefs - pure and simple. It has always been this way *except* for a brief period after the war when we were high on victory and everyone still had their wartime spirit. Yes, we all had street parties and everyone could leave their doors open and we all forgot about how shit everything was because Hitler was dead and we had got one over the Germans.

And for some reason this brief, unrealistic period in our history has become a benchmark for measuring society against for the rest of time.

Look back a little further and see what you get. Dick Turpin hijacking vehicles at gunpoint and robbing the occupants. All your Oliver-Twist style scallies nicking anything they can get from people out doing their shopping. People deliberately guiding ships on to rocks to kill all the crew and steal the cargo. And the list goes on. Of course this has all been romanticised now, through our rose-tinted-specs view of the past, but the reality was much harsher and bloodthirsty.

Society has always been crap. Rulers have always been self-serving, lying, manipulative oiks. This has always been the case. But at least you can praise whatever god or celebrity you worship that you've got central heating and you can drive around the country without being held up at gunpoint. We might all like to live in some Star Trek style utopia, but human nature means that is never going to happen.

come the revolution, i'm revolting Razz

don't know whether the world will be like the city in demolition man, with overly nice boring people due to too much law,
or
like the city in, say, blade runner, where everyone hates everyone else and there's no room on the streets so we take to the sky for commuting.

But more realistically, it looks like we will eventually live on the set of waterworld so all of that's academic.
