As a new Bike Chat member I am amazed to see topics called another biker down etc advising bikers that some unfortunate person has met with an unfortunate accident.

Are these forums for bikers or for people with morbid obsessions who like to report injuries.

Now I see a topic containing a poll on accidents! Confused

Thumbs Down

Bit of both. Laughing

As for the poll would have been useful to make it a multi option jobbie, as I've come off a few times and had a big smash once.

Accidents are kinda a part of biking that you cant ignore but can understand you wanting to just have fun with it and not dwell. Its only respectful to notify the 'biker family' of a biker down if its a member or friend.

I could have put mine in other because during the windy weeks not so long ago my bike was blown over. Doesnt really count as an accident as such though so I ticked the first box Thumbs Up .

I'm assuming that the difference between 'coming off the bike' and 'crashing' is the involvement of a second (or more) vehicle? It's only ever been me and my pride Neutral.

Other:

Small 8 year old child ran straight out in front of me from between cars, I didn't have time to stop or space (His brother also ran out) to avoid him. Was slow-ish at about 20mph, Evening time and dark, he was wearing very dark clothing and nothing reflective, he wasn't accopanied by parents at the time.

He was bashed on the head and very stunned but was mostly ok. Ambulance were on the scene quickly and he was well looked after. I was physically untouched as the bike stayed upright and only minor damage was sustained to the front fairing. But it messed my brain up for a while worrying about pedestrians and the unknown.

Does a tree count as a crash? Sad

Why do you need to know people's crash history?
Some wierd wanking material or a bloody student doing a thesis?

Well I tell people about my crashes as I hope it may help others to avoid them. I'm not proud of any of them, although the one that nearly killed me was only partially my fault.

We are vulnerable.

Sorry there is no fix for that.

We crash. We hurt ourselves. Do we give it up ? NO.

Do we have sympathy for others ? YES

All to often though bikers are portrayed as being third class citizens though, I had some sympathy with people when I had my accident but not as much as someone who would have had a similar outcome in a car.
