My Guzzi 750 won't go into neutral after half an hour or so riding. I have no probs when it's cold or warming up.

I'm definitely in 1st when I try to snick it up into neutral, but it just won't go.

I am thinking that the clutch may be the cause, because it does slip just a bit if I give it full throttle away from the lights.

As I only acquired the bike in October, I have no idea when the gearbox oil was changed, and plan to check if it needs doing. Any tips on how I should check?

Any other ideas?

If you adjust the clutch so that it clears (opens) more when you pull the lever in, this may help.

If you don't have the ability to fully open the clutch then you may find that both sets of plates are still spinning, enough to make changing into neutral impossible.

Also, chain tension can affect things, if the clutch doesn't help then try resettting the chain.

I've found both of these things completely prevented me from getting into neutral at different points in history.

Some times when you park the bike over night with the handle bars
turned to the left the cable will stretch and when you go to drive it the
cable is fine until it shrinks again and the lever is back towards the bar.
You might get help here.

Thanks guys. I think the cable adjustment might be worth a try.

As it is a shaft drive, will this throw any further light on it?

I always park it up with the bars straight, due to being up against a wall, so cable stretch is unlikely.

Thumbs Up

Given that you don't know when the oil was changed, you probably don't know which oil was used too. If a fully synth oil was used it could answer both issues, as i am sure that the Guzzi is bit like my Buell and bloody fussy which oil it uses. I am sure if you check the spec it will be happier running mineral. Apart from anything else I take the stance that if you don't know when, then suppose it wasn't, and would do an oil change as a priority.
