It's a dangerous motorsport, there's bound to have been a few over the years. I doubt anyone knows how many without some in depth research.

i found that a spectator died there

https://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/northamptonshire/5334466.stm

all riders have to sign this

"Acknowledgement of the risks of motorsport: I understand that by taking part in this event I am
exposed to a risk of death, becoming permanently disabled or suffering some other serious injury and
I acknowledge that even in the event that negligence on the part of the ACU, the promoter, the
organising club, the venue owner, or any individual carrying out duties on their behalf were to be a
contributory cause of any serious injury I may suffer, the dominant cause of any serious injury will
always be my voluntary decision to take part in a high risk activity.

I have read the above and acknowledge that my participation in motorsport is entirely at my
own risk.

They don't generally let cars and bikes run together cos of the obvious risks.

Jamie - Awww go on Mum let me go to Santa Pod. Pleeeeeease (sniffles)
Mum - Now, Now Jamie, don't raise your voice, you know that you'll ending up dribbling in your pants again if you do.
Jamie - Pleeeeeease Mum, I've it's been my dream to go there ever since I was a Baby.
Mum - Don't fib Jamie my dear, only last week you were saying that your dream was to spend a whole day in Tumble Tots and drink a Strawberry Milkshake on a roller coaster.
Jamie - Not anymore Mum I've grown up, now I want to spend it at Middle England's Premier drag racing strip (beams excitedly).
Mum - It might be dangerous munchkin.
Jamie - It won't be, honest I'll be careful.
Mum - Hmmm, well, how many people have died at the race strip in the last 5 years?
Jamie - Erm...?
Mum - If I can be assured of the Safety of the place I'll consider letting you go.
Jamie - (Runs up stairs) Hang on Mum I'll find out (turns on computer)
Mum - Pardon Munchkin?
Jamie - (Connects to the Internet) I'll find out (Logs on to BCF - Password 'Munchkin')
Mum - I can't hear you Baby?
Jamie - I'LL FIND OUT (wets himself)

so maybe next time someone will think before posting what they think might be funny.

I have no idea how many have died Jamie. I'd advise you to check google and other possible search engins or statistic boards before asking on here, you
A might get a prpper answer
B might lessen the chance of some muppet putting his foot in it like SteveH,, bet cha feel good don't cha steve? Confused

Come on - Steve's post was funny.

Yes, somewhat unfortunate considering the circumstances, but since Jamie hasn't made a point of telling people on the forum how is everybody supposed to avoid the subject?

It's hardly Steve's fault.

Back on topic ... Jamie, if all else fails, send an email to the Santa Pod PR people. I'm sure they'll answer your questions if you tell them it's for a school project on motorsport safety. Wink

Today's debate:

Should Steve be telepathic and should we stick to Politically Correct Yes/No answers?

Well, only last week Steve was (tearfully) recounting a distraught childhood brought on by a painful anxiety and fear of small furry puppets. And now look what you've done. Bet cha feel good.

so maybe steves post was funny, to some people.
I unfortunately learnt the hard way about saying things like that. one of our students was n orphan but it wasnt noted, and I did the Yomother joke, didnt go down well. so yeah Ive been "the muppet"

I suppose it was more of the heat of the moment as I have found latey a lot of visiousness and band waggon taking the piss is directed at Jamie,
I have also noticed that decent people have voiced dissagreement in posts by using words and valid arguments, (thank you silver, I noticed what I put sounds very wrong Smile )
and some other peole will Karma bash randomly those who have had reason to voice strong oppinions about there antics or so on.

does that make sence?

It is an emotive subject. I'm an orphan, both my parents died before I reached 18.

The simple point that over rides everything is don't say something on the net you wouldn't say to someones face. If you do it to my face you may or may not get a slap depending on how I feel.

Good Evening Ladies and Gents - I think it's time that I attempted to defend myself (certainly against those of you who have the sword of Damocles against my neck, ankle or nuts!).

I've PM'd Jamie with an apology, I thought it best you know that however I'd like to point out there there are 1,295,482 (at the last count!) Members of this forum and I'm afraid I'm totally oblivious to the who, when how or what of the vast majority of Members personal lives.

I've been a Member of this site for more than most and I'd like to think I'm (sort of) part of the furniture - Maybe a dusty old lamp in the corner or even a draft excluder shaped like a banana - In any case most people know my function and the prose of my posts, I don't do much, I don't have too much educational input, I just (attempt) to inject a bit of humour into a couple of threads every now and again. Granted it's not to everyone's taste but hey, that's what I do I'm afraid.

If I cause anyone any grief with any of my posts then I will apologise if it's warranted however in this instance I'm sure that most will understand that it was totally unintentional.

Cheers

Steve H

Sadly there are many subjects that can elect sadness in people.
For instance, loss of limbs, mental disability, death on the roads and many more.
For people to be able to talk with some sort of freedom, unfortunately it means you have to have a fairly tough skin in a large public society like this.

If it isn't made clear, then it's expected that people will ocasionally say something that offends.

My Dad was killed in a RTA when I was 11, so I know it can be nasty.

Steve had no way of knowing this guys mum had recently passed a way so he had no way that mentioning the guys mum might cause be inappropriate.

The tone was a bit mocking, but had nothing to do with the mum thing.

Some people on here are less keen on politeness and more keen on mocking. Im quite keen on politeness particularly with people i dont know.

Im also a member of the dead parent club, but sickpup has beaten me, as i have one left. I know someone else on here who can match him tho Smile. I think sickpup wins on the b4 18 score though;.

To lose one parent is unfortunate, to lose two is downright careless. Wink

Calm down boys and girls.

I feel sympathy for Jamie, it must still be hurting, but seriously, what Steve said was taking the piss out of Jamie, and happened to involve his mum. It could just have easily been his dad, and then there would be no fuss.

He wasn't to know, and he's apologised.

If we all stopped making jokes about anything, in case there's something we couldn't possibly know about which would make the joke unfunny, then the world would be a massive, politically correct, and deeply boring mess.
