PostPosted: 08:43 - 06 Feb 2007    Post subject: NSR or CBR 125????? Reply with quote

for my first bike i want one of these,

i love the look of the NSR but understand that the CBR is the new model and is a 4 stroke engine instead of a 2 stroke, which makes it easier to maintain??

the only thing with the new CBR is the skinny looks n thin back wheel (just doesnt look right i think)

any advice guys????

How tall are you mate?

I'm 6'2", and i thought the CBR was way too small, so i ended up buying an NSR.

Best decision i've made in a long time Very Happy

If you're that tall I'd go for the NSR.

CBR is fine for a tiny person like me, but I suspect it'd feel like a pushbike to you!!

Be aware of the high maintenance aspect of going the 2-stroke route.

But if you're willing to put up with that, then go get that NSR!!

i'd totally go for the NSR then, but i am biased!

I've only had mine about a month, and i'm still tinkering about with her, so i don't know much about the reliability, but i've heard good things from the forum. Have a search around, i think the guy who runs the forum used to have a site: www.nsr125.com. It's not updated anymore, but there's quite a bit of useful information still on there.

Ben.

Hi

NSR is a bigger and quicker bike. CBR is a 4 stroke. Note that a 4 stroke is likely to need more maintenance, just that it is less likely to need occasional major maintenance (such as replacing the piston).

All the best

Keith

Most i've had to do so far is wipe dead bugs off the screen! Smile

Nah, i've heard that sprockets and chains need replacing the most regularly, but i think it's the same for all bikes. A set for an NSR costs around 30 quid i think. They have loads of spares on ebay.

I've got an nsr, never regretted it.

The thing you will do most will be re-filling your 2 stroke oil tank, this is crucial, so you'll need to get in a habit of it.

Then tyre pressures need to be checked, the chain will need lubricating often.

My chains nearly done 5000 miles, its gonna need replacing soon, I'll do the sprockets at the same time but they aren't in dire need of replacing.

My tyres have done the same millage and have tons of life in them,

The only massive thing I've had to do is replace the piston and piston case, this was due to my oil pump screwing up and the engine seized, this is easy to keep on top of however.

Get the nsr cause its just, awsome, really awsome.

had my nsr just over a month and a half now and still lovin it, i think i would get bored on a cbr, no offence to 4 strokes but they are quite sluggish and personaly i would never be able to get one after ridin a 2 stroke, 2 strokes are just way more exiting and a lot easier for overtaking

4 Strokes are not at all slow in general Wink ..It's only slow on the CBR 125 especially because it's such a small cc'd bike.
I'm going for the NSR too when i'm 17 Very Happy

Yeah i got an nsr too fast little nippers. Mines unluckly an import therefore costs loads to actually derezz the bike. Mines still restricted and going to be kept that way too. Does 80mph no problem on flat, and theres masses of power for hills compares to other small cced bikes. ill be selling mine soon once i pass my test so ill let you guys know when i am, if any of yous are still wanting one.

Interested in this. What generally needs more maintenance on 4-strokes? I only ask as engine-wise I've not needed to touch my CBR in 7 months. All the repairs I've had to do are due to previous owners neglect.

Cheers

Hi

4 stroke should need more frequent oil changes. Valves will need to be adjusted.

All the best
