If you're not happy, you're meant to contact the other person to see if it can be resolved before leaving them feedback. I'd go post a follow up feedback just to draw more attention to it and to let people know how he immediately left retaliatory feedback.

Its a fucked system, the same happened to me. I bought an item, paid instantly and waited for its arrrival. When it came it was missing a key part (the power supply). I contacted the seller and all I got back at first was 'Send the item back'. Im not paying the postage to send it back when the item he owes me would only cost a couple of quid so I keep on at him. Eventually he says he will send it. The original transaction took place on about the 8/12/06. On the 23/01/07 I gave up and left neutral feedback.

I got an email a few days later, the guy had gave me negative feedback 'sellers beware'. Theres no justice. He ended up sending it and what turned up wouldnt even have fitted in the box the original item came in.

Now if I was cynical I might think that he's doing it on purpose, making a few quid on the postage and then getting the item back to sell again. Maybe? I dont know.

But yeah, the system is out of order. It needs more clarification. Few more categories that ebay fills in for you such as...

'Time paid, or paid instantly'

'Number of messages sent from buyer to seller...'

'Number of messages from seller to buyer...'

Would paint a different picture, its too easy for sellers to wait for you to give feedback then hit you with a neg when its too late.

pisses me off as well, people do it to get at each other, and feel they shouldnt leave positive unless they recieve positive

in my view, sellers should always leave it first, as soon as payment is recieved, as that is there part over with

the buyer is then free to leave feedback without any threats, after item is recieved

annoys me also though, when you have left some and dont get any back, so a lot of people hold feedback as ransom for this reason, although i dont go to this length yet, i normally chuck in a feedback withdrawal form and that seems to wake such people up

I sold items, payment was by cheque only.. said so in auction, also said I'd wait till they clear and I cant post out until 18th december at earliest..

guy wins 2 games, sends me payment on 12th december (2weeks after end of auctions) I cash, they clear 3 days later, I post on 18th 1st class (even though he paid 2nd, wish I hadn't bothered)

I get shite feedback - x1 should use paypal, too slow
x1 took too long to arrive after cheque clearing

Brick Wall so naturally I left the arse negatives...

so now I wait.. I wont give feedback first, leaves your arse waving in the air.

yes the system sucks along with the new bidder identity concelaed.. they could have maes bidding up and you can't tell... but what do ebay care, higher prices -> more fees.

YIP

I use Ebay a fair bit. I've had the same . . gave neutral, got negative in return the item she sold was stained and rubbish!

Also, I accidently left someone posetive feedbak before the item arrived. Ebay would not let me withdraw it unless the seller agreed - WTF?

ebay isnt perfect, but its still better than shops.

Some people take advantage of the system, but the system encourages most to make the effort to be helpful.

I've not had much trouble with ebay apart from my TV auction ended last wednesday and the bastard that won hasnt paid or responded to any of the invoices or emails I have sent. Evil or Very Mad
Hopefully the second chance offer I sent to another bidder will work out.

I agree the feedback system needs reviewing. I have in the past had to leave negative feedback for a couple of people and worried about getting negative back even though Id done nothing wrong. [I have a squeaky clean record to keep you know!] Also, you can actually buy positive feedback! How rediculous is that?

All in all though ebay is great, Ive sold lots of things on ebay and bought lots too with very few problems. Its a good way to make some cash or find something geeky you really dont need but want anyway. Thumbs Up

When you win on Ebay it also gives you the sellers address.

Why not pay them a visit on their doorstep, and get an answer face to face!

I have over 80 sales now and one purchase was no to my liking.
I’ve never really had a problem with a seller/buyer and not received anything, or been fiddled.

I gave neutral feedback as the box it came in was far far from what the picture depicted.

Then they give me neutral back for saying so….WTF?
That was annoying.

the cost in petrol to get to the south coast where all the arses seem to be (sweeping comment, dont shoot me) is greater than the effort I can be bothered putting into verbally face to face tanning their arses...

I paid instantly for an item, waited 2 weeks or so, emailed asking where it was and the seller said something along the lines of "sorry I'll post soon". Didn't get the item until about 2 weeks later. I was in a good mood at the time so instead of negative I left a neautral saying "items just as described but delivery was slow". Seller then left me a negative saying "left us poor feedback when he was to blame! Pointless negative" Shocked rigggght?! Confused
I just left it at that, don't see the point in being a keyboard warrier over it. 189 positives and 1 negative aint much to worry about

Oh and another thing, had an auction won on the 3rd. Few hours after it ended buyer hadn't completed the checkout (so I had no idea how they were paying) so I sent them an invoice. On the 6th still hadn't heard anything so sent him a message asking how/when he was going to pay. He replied a few hours later with "i will send cheque to u tomorrow regards michael". Then I just went on 2 secs ago and he's sent me a message saying "hi there im still waiting 4 your full postage address regards michael". Still waiting?!!? He hadn't asked for it before?!?! And if he bothered to look on the item page he'd see all my details there! Rolling Eyes

If you're feeling nasty, you can always set up another ebay account, purchase an item with this new account, then not pay for it and leave the feedback you wanted to before.

Of course, that'd be naughty and I'm definitely not condoning such actions Whistle.

I had a guy win an auction, pay instantly, then about 5 mins later he emailed askin me to give him feedback. I told him that once I had sent the item to him, and he let me know that he was happy, then I would be glad to leave feedback, but not before. Next thing he's getting all stroppy saying he paid straight away so I had to give him feedback. I emailed him, told him that his item would be in the post, and that feedback was upto him, also if he left me a negative the favour would be returned. All this was over a £4 fucking wallet. first class tosser.

I would have expected him to email me if there were problems. How else can I sort them out otherwise? I'm not going to automatically give feedback as soon as I'm paid, otherwise the buyer can give you shite feedback for no reason. I've had a buyer complain before because he thought the auction price was too high, well if thats the case why fucking bid?? The price is there for you rto see, its not as if they bid blind. Some people just like to moan.
