What parts are most vulnerable inside the engine ? , I'm er thinking of renting one and want to check one out before doing anything rash Wink ,

Idealy I would not want to seize up the engine in the middle of rural cornwall ,

My dad always tells me of the 70s when he shared a car with a couple blokes and once got sugar put into the fuel tank, which snopes disputes

Any thoughts?

I've had drilled into me diesel vans are virtually indestructable.

simplest way to prevent problems, would be to rent a van that isnt too old.

Chances are that if they are renting it tho, it will work. If it didnt, they'd fix it, or ditch it and get another one, as it wdnt be worth the hassle for them.

If your going to be renting a van, it's quite likely to be fairly new, the place around the corner doesn't have any vehicles over 3 years old as their generally on lease.

Some vans are using the same lumps that are in their car range (ie VW Transporter 1.9 is the same engine that's in the golfs etc..)

As long as the oil level is sufficient you shouldn't experience any problems with one.

Any decent van hire company is going to have full rac/aa cover, part of the company I work for rents vehicles in south wales and we have a full rac cover we also have an on call engineer who goes out and sorts on site problems. Also when you hire the van you should be given a check sheet which should show that they have checked all fluid levels and tyre conditions as well as damage to the vehicle. The only time you will have any trouble is if you are contract hiring a van where you will be responsible for repairs and upkeep but in this case you should be given a new vehicle.
