Posted: 10:08 - 09 Feb 2007 Post subject: Well that was an eventful morning... |
 |
|
Yesterday... Was approaching the 85 mark on my trip meter, and thinking because its winter my petrol consumption might go up I flicked the bike to reserve just in case.
Got home fine, locked the bike up etc.
Woke up this morning to go to work, bike wouldn't start due to the knackered battery (Spent 30 minutes bumping it the night before) but was turning over gently so a short run in 2nd had it running...
Pulled out of my drive and came up to the crossroads to turn left... Bike started running out of fuel so I quickly realised the nearest petrol station was a right turn, checked and maneuvered into the right hand lane and went through just as the lights went amber... Once I'd turned the bike decided to completely cut out at the next set of lights, so I got off, and pushed it onto the pavement past a rather miffed looking driver.
Had gotten about 100 metres down the road when I spotted one of those Nationwide Autocentres... Went in and asked them if they had a small amount of unleaded I could buy off of them, and they told me to fook off so went back outside to the bike.
Decided to have a look at the petcock...
The moral of this story is.
Before bumpstarting your bike, almost crashing when it cuts out due to lack of fuel, and then trying to ponce petrol off of dodgy looking people in garages.
MAKE SURE YOUR FOOKING RESERVE IS TURNED ON!!!
I was running in reserve the day before, I must've switched it to on
Edit: Was just thinking that's actually quite good luck, as it's a 3 mile push to the garage! Would've damn well near killed me...
Maybe the Ogri Fairies filled my tank to reserve and flicked the switch to ON overnight? |

I managed to run out of fuel completely on the A64 stranded between two bridges.
The hole in my exhaust has left the enigne drinking fuel and the tank was on reserve when the engine died was stuck there for 45 mins until someone could get me a drop of fuel to make it home. two police cars (one T5) passed me and never pulled in (duno if thats a good thing or a bad thing )

Pushed my dt 3 miles when my clutch cable snapped and I didnt wanna trash the gearbox riding it home. I also happen to live on a the top of a big hill. I was dead by the time I got home and my bike is small (125kg with full tank).
I my mate pushed his drz about 6 miles home and plymouth isnt exactly flat
I always run with tap on reserve. I dont like being caught out at junctions especially major junctions. Had that a few times. I know almost exactly how many miles I get out of a tank and I always make sure fill up after 100 miles and I know I'll always have at least 30 miles (about 2L) of fuel left. ____________________ 04' DT125RE (run-a-bout) // 89' DT125R (rebuilt + supermoto conversion)
