If they fit you Arais are as good as you can buy. If they don't fit you they're rubbish. Try it on - do you have an Arai shaped head?

I understand the side-pods around the visor on Arai helmets make them noisier than some others. I've not really found it a problem on mine.

Well the main thing to consider is whether it is a good fit on your head. If it is then I don't think you can go far wrong with an Arai, they only make decent helmets. I don't actually use an Arai myself as I am a Shoei fan and Arai's just don't seem to fit me quite as well as a Shoei. Very Happy

Actually the shape of the RX7 is slightly different to other arai's.
Normally you either have a shoei or arai head. mine was always a shoei.
I was running AGV X-vents for around 7 years as i found them by far the best fit for my head. once i couldnt get another i hunted high and low for another lid that fitted properly. didnt matter if it was a £40 helmet or a £500 pound one, if it fits properly then it will do a job. sadly the only one that came close was the corsair and its wasnt to expensive as i always like the plain black.
Cracking helmets, and when the chinstrap fuzzes after rubbing on velcro they replace FOC the first time and give the helmet a service too

Richard Hammond was wearing an Arai lid when he crashed........

Makes me glad that I have one!

Much as people say "a helmet is a helmet is a helmet" - when it's a touch-and-go situation like that it makes you wonder whether he'd still be presenting Top Gear if he had been wearing a Takachi or something.

I've had my RX7 for nearly 2 years now, i wouldn't have anything else now, very light and comfortable but can be a little noisy and the visor change mechanism isn't brilliant.
Those niggles are both outweighed by the comfort and quality though.

If you do get one, don't let your friend bung crisps into the air vent near the mouth Laughing

Its happened to mine and the vent won't stay closed any more Mad it is a bit annoying for winter riding.

On my second, wouldn't go for anything else now. They are noisy due to all the vents on them but earplugs are a must with all helmets nowadays so not a problem. Never had problems changing visors...10second job. Wink

I've had an RX7RR for years now, quality piece of kit. Its not the quietest helmet on the market, but its mega comfy. Like some others have said, Arai's dont suit all heads.

Just bought me an arai today. I have to admit, it is the most comfortable helmet i've ever tried, and its bloody quiet in comparison to my agv it replaces.

Get a clear one, which will probably come with the helmet and try and get a discount on a dark one. Probably the best bet then you don't have to worry about which one to take out with you Thumbs Up

I'd definitely recommend one, as I love mine. The only downside is that it can be pretty noisy, but if you're wearing plugs it's not a problem.
I got mine on offer for £350 Thumbs Up

Quite funny you should say that, my KBC I bought to replace my first nitro lid is actually noisier in a lot of ways. It fits soooo much better though which outweighs the noise.

cheers

ive had an rx7 corsair for 2 years now, bloody good lid.... cant knock the actual lid, my only problem with it really is i bought a £500 helmet.....and its fairly obvious to me that fisher price made the visor mechanism Laughing ive broken 2 side pods just trying to change my visor....but they were replaced free.

You must be a bit ham fisted mate, I've had an Arai quantum II about 14 years and its still on the original pods despite having the visor off dozens of times each year.

Ditto the above, In summer mine is changed from black to clear every day and they have never broken. The side pod did pop off once but no damage was done and it clicked back on.
