Hi all,i want to change the rear subframe on my zx1000 b3 to something like a cbr 600 fx/fy rear end.

My problems started when i stripped it down to find that kawasaki had very nicely welded the rear subframe on whilst honda bolted theirs on.

Is there an easy way to do this or is it going to get complicated and end up in tears? Should i just cut the old subframe off and make brackets to bolt the new one on?

I want to make the back higher but not much.

Any ideas?

Yes, just chop it off but leave the actual chopping untill the last minute. You don't want to chop it then decide it's not feasable. It would be wise to get the replacement rear end first so you can measure things up.

What if you cut two small pieces out of the top bars, bend the subframe up and reweld it.

Yes i must admit in a fit of madness i scoured ebay and bought all the bits i needed for the conversion before actually checking it.Stupid i know but i figured if i couldnt fit them then i could always just sell them on Thumbs Up

I wouldnt know how/where/who could do it.It's aluminium frame i think? it's deffo not steel and i only know steel welders plus it's the transportation as well.
The other problem i found with that idea was even if i did it then the whole rear end would look out of place and i wanted to minimise it hence the fy back end.Also none of the fy gear fits on this subframe at all.

For such a blong bike its going to look a tad odd with a raised arse, It would be a nightmare to just get the seat to look right. You would be significantly(sp) lowering the value of it I would think as well.

So you think leave it straight? I just wanted to update the back end and make it not as chunky.Im not worried about value as i have turned it into a streetfighter anyway and plan on buying a slightly smarter bike for a general hack.Just wanted to make this look like no other zx10 Thumbs Up


Any ideas on a back end that would almost fit straight on then that would slightly change the appearance?

If you have streetfightered it anyway thats a different story. What about a jack up kit for it if they do them, but remember it may make it unstable.

You will really need someone with tig welder to do mountings on your frame for you to bolt on this honda subframe, so it would be easier to as Baldy says and alter the angle of the existing subframe.

Ok sounds good then,so if i cut 15mm out of the top joints,bent the subframe up and re welded it.That would give it a nice kick wouldnt it? also there a chance the original seat may still fit....
