Everybody takes the piss out of halfords (me too), but over the last week I've broken one a drill bit and two bits from my socket set. They replace them no questions asked Thumbs Up I've done this at least 7 or 8 times over the time I've owned my bikes... sooo Thumbs Up to Halfords. I'd recommend buying all tool sets from them...easy to get bits replaced free of charge Karma

I've got no problems with their tools, The Professional range is very good. It's the chav section that gives them a bad name imo.

How dare you! I found a delightful pair of carbon-print mirrors for £30 in Halfrauds.

Great service at my local branch - they even stock Meguairs....

Better not say what I was going to say about the numpties that work there then.....I mean staff that work there.

As for the Tools I cant fault the service on the pro range of kit. I even took a Draper socket in that i split and told them it was part of there pro range and they swapped it without checking the make. Confused Smile Wink

Friend had the halford pro socket set and i wasn't impressed. The ratchet kept getting locked in one direction ud have to whack it get it to switch to reverse. And several of the smaller sockets split at the corners.

I've got a Draper equivalent set, was cheaper at about £40 and not had a single problem with it, always buy draper stuff. Plus you're paying £15 for an allen key set in Halfords, £2 in a cheap shop for ones that're just as tough. My main issue with Halfords is just the absurd prices on most of their kit.

Whilst it i sgod that they replced it for fre i'd have to question why it is breaking in the first place. I appreciate the drill bit breaking but i've never had a socket snap before.

Halfords isn't all bad, I don't understand why everyone slates the place so much. Don't get me wrong I'm no great fan of the place and rarely buy anything from there. But when you do need something desperately motor related like at seven o' clock at night or on a sunday for example, you can often get something to do the job from Halfords.

The place isn't the cheapest, but you pay for the big selection they carry and the convenience of the place. Their tools aren't all bad either, they are decent quality for the price you pay and at the end of the day if you want top quality you buy Snap On, not Halfords own brand.

As for the 'chav' Ripspeed section it horses for courses. If it makes them money then they are entitled to sell what they want and attract what customers they want too. If you don't like it you don't have to enter that section.

Like I say I source most of my motor related parts from places other than Halfords, mainly due to me getting better deals and prices elsewhere, but I think all of you Halfords 'bashers' are being a bit unfair. Very Happy

'Cos I hit the fcuka with a hammer in frustration. Have learnt over the last 3 hours slowly slowly ... and some more wd40 Thumbs Up

Read the post Rolling Eyes in other words I said I'd been back with breaks 7 or 8 times, never the same piece... but the point is they replace the item/component without any trouble Thumbs Up Sometimes their pro kit is a little more expensive but the 7 or 8 times I've had free replacments makes up for this.

Halfords, slate 'em yeah sometimes, but what else have we got?

Halfords is good when you don't have to speak to the staff, its just when the person behind the counter doesn't know what indicators are you start to worry a bit lol.

Just stay away from the paint section,i took 2 cans back that had no propellant, yes they replaced them but when i went back to get some more they had put the faulty ones back on the shelf for some other poor sod to buy,i pointed this out to some numpy who worked there and he told me he would remove them,i went back in the next day and they were still there Evil or Very Mad

The halfords problem is with the fitters, not necessarily the staff.

I tend to find that in general the specific staff are quite handy and are generally quite clued up in their section.

The fitters are the cowboys, and i know this from seeing the remains of their "fitments" when i was working for VW. Its not pretty.

Tools though, halfords pro carry a lifetime guarantee, which is unbeatable for the price Thumbs Up

It's a bit hit and miss with the staff. About half are enthusiasts who tinker with cars and bikes for a hobby and know things like the socket size needed for a particular axle nut or driveshaft bolt ect. But the other half are stumped if you ask for a screwdriver.

Can't complain at the tools. They aren't unbreakable but it takes some serious abuse to do so. If you break them regularly you're doing something wrong. Also, i know other manufacturers offer a lifetime guarantee too but you'd struggle to get a replacement for a snap-on tool at 1pm on a Sunday afternoon.

thats not fair, i used to man the parts desk and was a fitter, its not rocket science fitting light bulbs or changing a set of wiper blades but why should they go to a main dealer and get charged 4 times as much when they can come to halfords and for very little get the job done and on the spot!

theres good and bad eveywhere but there was a lot of knoladge in my store and when you have fitted as many bulbs/batterys and wiper blades as some of the staff you get to know all the popular cars and the not so popular (hummers etc)

You've changed one battery, you've changed em all. The £5 numberplate fitting service makes me giggle Razz

Should be £10-20-30+ anyone who cant do that should be ripped off. Same with light bulb, wiperblade fitting.

I bet if they advertised that they would "fit" an air freshener for a £5 somebody will take them up on the offer. Mr. Green

think if it like this ( WHICH IS ALMOST ALWAYS THE CASE) a mother comes in with 3 children dragging behind her, shes been pulled over by the police because her head lamp has blow, she knows NOTHING about cars a cant drive the car because its dangerous, so she goes to halfords round the corner (theres that many) 5 minutes later and £15 poorer shes on her way home, no hassle for her, no getting dirty no nothing! as far as shes concerned shes back on the road getting on with her usual!

Whats wrong with that!!??

same goes for batterys where people get a jump start drive to the store and 10 minutes later there on their way!

some people use cars as a tool and might not be at all handy and just want to dive it, why go to a main dealer to change a light bulb?

Have you fitted a head light bulb in a C3? NO? well SHUT UP then!

^^^^ Totally agree. ^^^^
I recently went to halfords to get battery (car) changed .. the screw had knackered and it was bit of trick to get the battery out from its slot!!!! I would hv definately ruined the threading trying to remove the fuker..
The fitter at halfords charged £5 quid, and spend 10 minute replacing the same. Thumbs Up
Though i did change wipers myself Wink

I broke a windscreen changing my wipers once upon a time. The wiper arm snapped back against the screen. If I'd paid someone a fiver to change the wipers for me I'd have saved myself 150 quid. I'll have to change a lot of pairs of wipers myself to get that money back.

I went in yesterday to get a long plug socket for the MZ. They had one, so no probs there. But i wanted to double check it was the right size, so i asked the guy at the counter if i could borrow one for a minute, and gave him the NGK code.

He looked at me a bit funny, then got on the computer and asked me what car it was for, and was completely stumped when i told him it was for a bike.

Apparently they dont know how to find them by the code, they need the computer to tell them where to look, and it starts the questions off with "What car are they for?". Not impressive. But the socket works just fine...

halfords are cool. the staff if you can ever find one are ok, they are teens doing a part time job..

but i didnt realise the pro tools are lifetime guarantee. My wrench socket thing has been playing up so will be going back there!

other then that they are expensive but sometimes you can get a good deal..

Halfords has always been good to me... I know a few staff there so whenever I need to go get some bulbs or something they'd just lend me some tools to sort out whatever it was I wanted in the parking lot.

Yeah, some stuff is overpriced, some stuff isn't, but they do stock alot of useful products.

Thumbs Up

Ive snapped loads of draper sockets in the past because of seized bolts....

bit of advice I got from an aircraft engineer was never to use 6 point sockets...

https://www.tools-hills.com/images/SK-Hand-Tool-SK-34048-1-2-Drive-6-Point-Standard-Fractional-Impact-Socket-1-1-2-B0002T5HTS-M-A30DGJTMHYAU9C_.jpg

by 6 point I mean the one on the left.
