Hi there

When i was at the Ally Pally i spent some time listening to one of those guys at a stall, chatting about a product that you spray on your numberplate, which then reflects the flash of the speed cameras when you fly past.

I'm wondering, has anyone tried this and does the product work? If i'd used my nouse i'd have taken a picture with my camera with the flash on at the time....but i didn't think of that until i'd gone!!!

Its not that this product will be of any use to me anytime soon, my little CG tops out at 58mph ( head tucked down, tailwind, downhill), but wanted to know whether it actually worked or was as effective as the anti-misting wax stick!!!

cheers

jo

If it was that good....and actually worked everyone would have it. It would also be banned by the time it hit the shelves.

I would also think by using it you could be done for perverting the course of justice.

I was watching one of those police uk programmes few weeeks ago and the old bil were following a car but the camera in the cops car could not see the plate. it was all fuzzy.. Im not sure if that guy used a spray or if it was a laminte or something on his number plate but it deffo worked...

the problem is if there is a police man behind you then you will get stopped...

Are you sure it wasn't blanked out by the TV program? Thats what they usually do.

I saw this program also, the guy was pulled and told he was perverting the course of justice.

......just as an aside, if you were riding a bike that you'd purchased 2nd hand, which had had the plate sprayed and you could reasonably claim that you were unaware of any application of spray, would that still be perverting the course of justice?

presumably then the spray works if the guy was pulled by the police because of it?

But are you willing to risk both counts? Mr. Green

....not really, but glad to finally hear that a product sold by a carpetbagger actually works!!! As for the visor anti-misting stick..........

Ignorance isn't an excuse, as the driver/rider of a vehicle is it 100% your responsibility to be road legal. It would still be perverting the course of justice, if they can prove you have made an effort to "pervert the course of justice" (successful or otherwise).

Save your money. Thumbs Up

They have digital cameras these days which enhance the plate.

It doesn't work, it never has and I'm sure it never will.

I know the one you mean. I mentioned that a while back and people doubted it. You could see the plate clear as day through the windscreen but looking down at the little in car screen the plate was blank.

That's what I always thought, but a few months back I was sitting at a set of traffic lights when some British Transport Police started chatting to me about the 'angle' of my plate!! They both said that the coating you can put on your plate does actually work. I'm still not convinced but I'm sure they wouldn't have just said that for nothing!! Perhaps they would as they are police afterall!

trust me i have seen it with my own eyes on tv..
there is something you put on the plate that can get the plates invisible to any kind of lens.. digital or not...

you can take a pic of it with your own digital camera and it wont show up... not sure a spray would do that but it might be the actual material the plate is on or some transparent cover on it.

but there is something out there..

There might very well be, but the cameras have numerous different filters as well as a 'negative/x-ray' one which will show the plate regardless of whats on the surface....

I remember an old story a friend told me years ago that his uncle had a special number plate produced, it looked like a bog standard number plate, but it had some sort of crystals "inside" the plate that made it fuzzy when on camera. I've never heard anymore on this issue though. Confused

thats a good point.. i guess its a risky thing to do it may well work it may not but its not worth the risk if you ask me.. just imagine you doing a 100mph and you think its gonna work. If it doesnt then its bye bye license..

ps.not that any of us do a 100mph on any road other then the tracks Smile

AFAIK they just reverse the colours (negative) and alter the contrast...

Mud on the other hand will work, and carrys a £60 fine but is not endoreseable, of course this is assumeing its a camera gets you and not a traffic cop..

A plate designed to refelect back the flash (which dosn't work) they will do the trick above then get you for speeding AND perverting the course of justice.

I also saw that cop program and sure enough the camera couldn't read the numberplate. As G said it is the diver's responsibility to make sure thair vehicle is 100% road legal.

There was also an article in the Guardian a few years back where they used digital enhancements to make a vehicle numberplate readable where it wasn't in the original photograph. The case got thrown out of court because the defence argued that the evidence had been tampered with.

If you want to speed and dont want to be caught for a particular stretch get a velcro numberplate. Thumbs Up
