 |
|
I went into the petrol station earlier today. Picked up a bottle of milk and some mints, payed with my card. Got to work and looked at my receipt which read "£1.02".
Now I told the guy my pump number, he then scanned my milk and mints. I payed, jumped in to my car and went workbound.
Now what should I do? I was seen entering the shop and registered as paying for something. So its not like I upped it and ran. From that I got into my car and drove away.
Obviously as it was payed for with my card it would be believable that I still think I have payed for it, and hadnt noticed because I wasnt giving them exact change for the sale!
Should I return and pay the money when I finish work? And if not should I expect a knock at the door? ____________________ 05 ZX10R, (**05 WKR) |

If you're sure you told him the pump number and he heard you (presumably you weren't wearing the helmet in the car) then it sounds like a gift to me.
Or petrol's suddenly got exceptionally cheap your way. ____________________ McGee - "When I go to the mall and see all the high school girls, I have to have DO NOT TOUCH THE GIRLS written on my hand. Every time I go to grope I see it and stop."

But you didn't check the receipt and weren't aware. Just wait until they ask for it. They might have really bad CCTV. Did you fill up like 40 litres or just top up? ____________________ TheShaggyDA: I've got 3 or 4 pairs that predate my wife, so at least 11.5 years old. |

Funny one this, maybe you'll get away with it. Once in a shell garage in Blackpool I put a tank full of petrol into the car and when I went in to pay the cashier said that there was nothing on the pump. I told him I'd put £35 in and to check again, and he just replied "it's showing clear". So I bought a pack of gum and got him to sign the reciept then sodded off.
Cheapest fill up I've ever bought... ____________________ Current Bikes - Kawasaki ZX-6R (636) | BMW G650GS |

i used to work in a petrol station. 9/10 they wont come knocking dont worry.
If they do say you were in the shop and you did pay and did not realise that you wernt charged for petrol! dont worry you wont get carted off to the police station or anything they better things to do..
but if someone did a drive off the cashier usually has to pay it so would be nice if you did go back and pay but chances of old bill coming are very very very slim.. ____________________ kawasaki Ninja-zx6r 1997 (f3) |

I wouldn't be at all suprised if you did go back and pay, to find out you couldn't pay for it anymore anyway!
It'd be far too complicated for the cashier to find out how much you owe, how to put it through as a transaction and how to give you a proper receipt. |

I once used my AllStar card to fill up four friend's cars and forgot to pay for one, I went back. I didn't want the niggling stress of wondering if they'd pursue it.
Peace of mind has a cash value, in this case, its how ever much fuel you put in your motor |

I still work in a petrol station (very occasionally). At Asda it is the cashiers responsibility to ask if there is any fuel, the customer doesn't have to declare it unless asked. So basically if you weren't asked then it is the cashiers fault.
I know different stations have different proceedures, however they will see that you came into the shop and paid for something. At that point I think most places would put it down to cashier error if you weren't charged for the fuel.
Generally if reported to the police, they are at the persons house within 2 hours. I would wait a day, if nothing happens then you are probably in the clear |

I must be the only dishonest person on here
You tried to pay, they messed up, their loss, or at least its down to them to track you down and ask for the money they should have taken.
Anyway at £1.02p for milk and some mints they were trying to rip you off! ____________________ Yamaha FZR400RR 3tj

Id just wait, if they ask for it, its not the end of the world and if not you got it free.
If you still go there a pay for petrol after this incident then you can just claim you didnt realise. ____________________ My Bike Pics |

In an BP the other day, I realised I forgot my wallet after getting fuel.
I went up and explained the situation, saying I could be back in about an hour with the money.
I was told that I /must/ leave the vehicle at the petrol station and they would call a taxi for me to go home and get money if required.
Needles to say, when they refused to budge I explained that I was going to drive off because their policies were ridiculous - for a start I was doing someone a favour in the van so they were giving me petrol money.
Bloke behind the counter explained that he would be calling the police and it was my look out. Blokey then said, "oh what's your registration" - needless to say I didn't give it to him and drove off at some speed.
I did return with the money, but but it seems they are purely making it a lot more hassle for the people who /are/ going to pay. |
