Hey

When im 17 I thought because the bike i buy will retain value more than insurance (obviousally gone within a year). It makes more sense as a 17 year old to go for cheaper insurance and a lower powered bike, rather than cheap 600 with sky high insurance.

My question is:

In very general terms for just third party, what is insurance likely to be for:

A 125 like a yamaha dt 125

A 400 sports like cbr 400 or gsxr.(restricted to 33bhp)

I guess around £300 for 125cc and £500 for the 400cc sports.

Would a 500cc commuter like cb500 make much sense?

Can anyone comment on this?

Thanks

Find an insurance company

eg.www.bennets.co.uk

Arrow type in your details
Arrow type in bike details
Arrow press go

Hey presto, you have an insurance quote.

Before you can ride a bike thats bigger than a 125, you have to pass your test.

Insurance is unique just to point out.

Would be nothing wrong with getting a 125 to gain experience and NCB on as this would help you a lot when you move up to bigger bikes so if i were you id get a DT for a year and then get some NCB, also a DT is gonna be a lot more forgiving than a 500cc

Hi

I filled in some incurance quotes and i can't believe how cheap it is for third party:

for a Dt 125 it would be around £100 only for third party!

For a gsf 600 it would be only £174.00!!!

And for an sv650 just £166!!!!

Where as cbr 600's are like £1900 that difference is crazy i find it hard to believe a 17 year old would be 10 times more dangerous on a cbr 600 than a gsf 600.

Another wierd thing is sports 400's like CBR 400 RR are like £574 comparing that to the sv650 i can't believe its that much more.

I presume this is because they are considered commuter bikes and insurance companies like sports bikes.

Thanks

I found a 500 commuter to be the cheapest out of SV650s, cbr400rr, NSR125R1

the older the gpz the lower the quote went.

try A Quote, not many people seem to but most are happy with the quotes, they also tend to go extras if you work them, ie keep ringing back and bluffing other quotes.

Usually whatever bike you plump for the 1st year will be pricey as you're an unknown risk, then it should come down if you dont go seeking solid objects.

my first year was £764
second £146
both for the same bike..
