One of them was hobbleing about, turns out he hurt his ankle while rideing seveal miles on the grass verge of the motorway to get arround the traffic (and cliped his ankle on the kerb, probably broken but will worry about it after the weekend so he said)

She was sent to the military in 87 but saw no service, since her discharge she has clocked up 6000 miles. She has a long MOT and tax, new Avons, new chain and sprockets, heated grips etc.
I decided I needed somthing modern a few months back and have been following sales of Armstrongs on ebay for a while. They normaly fetch £1000+.
This one was however wrongly listed and did not show up under normal ebay searches, however my mate Marc is as dyslexic as fyck (his spelling) and found it for me.
I got it for £770.
I will use it mainly for winter work and as a standby for if the Ariels get poorly. Two weekends ago I had a big end go on my 1939 hack. I started to strip her on Friday evening, worked untill midnight, all day Saturday and an hour after the pubs shut, all day Sunday and had her ready for work on Monday. On Monday morning I decided to get some back up. I have used a bike five years younger than the "Rainbow" (actualy an Ariel) rode by George Formby in "To the Limit" the film he made about the TT Races to trvel to and from work for five years and she has never let me down as such.
I may be going soft!

Interesting. Theres a bit of a premium on them though, isnt there? Maybe its the "army biker" appeal.

That actually looks very nice! Love it! Price tag is quite high though. Would insurance be a bit hit and miss though?

Good choice.
I've been trying to justify getting a big(ish) single that'd be easy to work on for some time now. Have toyed with the idea of getting the Harley Davidson version of that (same bike I believe just different badge, correct me if I'm wrong). However, that'd be just so that I could say I have a HD and see people's reaction when it's not quite the Bad Boy they expect

I can't seem to find any info on the rotax engines other than them being 350cc and there 30ish bhp :/

The 500s pump out about 37 horses and should be good for about 85 but that is not the real point of a bike like this. The 500 is kick start only btw, the 350 has an electric go button. The 350 also has a disk up front.

Crikey, thats more than i expected tbh.. anything that can hold a steady 70 is enough for me really (allthough motorway rideing is on a have to basis only even though 90 isn't going to be pushing mine).. the 350 is the later one afaik? left hand start sounds interesting!

I understand the appeal but MrZ, If you want a 30bhp-ish single that's cheap and easy to work on - buy a Dt125, KX125 or a Cagiva Supercity! They don't come much simpler or cheaper than that to be honest!

Rode them for a short while when i was serving, oh ! the fun starting them and those nobblies certainly making interesting riding on the road in the wet, still have a strange kind of appeal though.

Picked her up today, I live in Brum and she was in Stafford. The plan was that I go up on the train and ride her home but my bloody mates wound me up in the pub last night saying how my feet would not reach the floor on an MT-500 as they are very tall and I am a gnome. I did not have a good night's sleep and formulated a plan at about 5.00am to take the saddle off and compress the suspension with a couple of dozen bungees and ride her that way.
In the end I bottled it and phoned my mate from the Ariel Club and called a few favours back in.
We took his Range Rover and trailer up and picked her up from a very nice guy that was selling her to pay for his wedding ( I would have sold the bird and kept the bike!) and of course my feet touch the floor!
She has a Del -auto (Sp?) carb that makes starting easy and she is a joy to ride. I did about ten miles tonight just to get a feel for her, The foot controls are reversed to what I am used to and the gears are reversed in order but so far I have not cocked up. Having indicators, lights and brakes that work are a luxury and the heated grips are just about the gayest thing I have ever rode with!
I am taking her to school in the morning to show off.
