Right, I finally think it is the time to get off my backside and do some sort of touring/extended mileage. Not just to get rid of this awful custom title but to see some of the delights our country has to offer. My aim is to go to Scotland for some time, of which I will itinerise in a moment. I am just trying to guage interest and when we should go. Currently I am stuck in Coventry at uni until the middle of June, so I won't be able to go till after then, probably 10 days after while I get the bike all serviced up and prepped. So this is what I have in mind.
- Depart on Saturday 30th June 2007.
- Return on Saturday 7th July 2007.
- Accomodation arrangements, can do a mix of Camping and use of Youth Hostels, this basically has to be quite a cheap run, considering I am a poor student.
As of yet I have no route arrangements or places to go. Considering there is still 8/9 months till this will take place. Just wanted to get something planned up, so people can book time off work, reserve the week etc.
Any takers? ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. Advice is a form of nostalgia, dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it?s worth. |

Thanks for that map, will give this some thought. I have plenty of time to research routes etc etc, so appreciate your help.
As for getting too Scotland, I am hoping it is not too unrealistic to get there in a day. However I do live in SW England so it is a good 400-500 mile trek. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. I'm up for this, providing dropped valves/crashes/lack of money don't get in the way.
For now, put me down as a preliminary yes. |

Just bumping this thread, in case there is anymore interest. Looking at places to go now. Me and Rookie have discussed camping near the Lake district on the first day and going into Scotland on 31st June. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. You'd be more than welcome to come along to the Scotland run, but I cannot afford to go over to Ireland as well. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it. One thing I would recommend when touring is the Island Hoppers pass on the ferries which will take you to all the Scottish Isles - time and money dependant of course.
There's loads of fantastic wee roads up here, but it would be pointless us providing you with all the details, part and parcel of the fun is discovering these roads yourself and then trying to remember where the hell you found them the next time you come up!
Post up nearer the time and I'm sure some of us Scottish contingents will be happy to show you around / accompany you en-route for a while ____________________ I have an asshole tolerance level of -10

Right, i'm looking at my Collins 2006 map now and I am trying to compile a good route for us guys to take. I am still open for more people to come along if you want BTW. Anyway: -
Saturday 30th June: - Approx 290 Miles.
I am starting off from Somerset and my first destination for the end of Saturday 30th June 2007 is Windermere. The route i'll be likely to be taking to get there is M5 -> M6 come off at Jnc 37 and take the A684 and the A591. Accommodation is not yet sorted. The same goes for every destination.
Sunday 1st July: - Approx 180 Miles.
I am currently looking at taking the A592 from Windermere to Jnc 40 of the M6. Do a short M6 -> A74 trip to get to the A75, then just after Dumfries take a detour to the A712 and the A713 to Ayr (possibly for lunch). Then it'd be nice to hitch a ride on the A77 and M77 to just skirt Glasgow, then take a short trip on the M8 to Jnc 30 and a short trip on the A82 to somewhere next to Loch Lomond. Would be planning to stay around here overnight.
Monday 2nd July: - Approx 130 Miles.
This would be a good opportunity for the Glasgow regiment of BCF to come on a ride for us on this day (though I am aware it is a Monday <shrug>) Now the final destination for this day is Fort William. Thinking of taking the A82 for a few miles and then looking at the Map the A83 looks quite twisty and take us down to Inveray Castle. Then was thinking of going onto the A819 for a short while and turn left onto the B840 down near to Kilmartin. Then take the A816 to Oban. Have lunch here possibly, could take the ferry to Lismore . Now next it is either doing the A85 -> A82 to Glencoe or do the shorter A828 to Glencoe. Definately want do the B863 around Loch Leven. Then want to settle for the night near to Fort William
This is all i've got time for right now. If anybody wants to suggest different routes then post em up, this is very early days, got plenty of time to "finalise" a route, but I don't really want to finalise it if a better road looks a proposition. ____________________ Be careful whose advice you buy, but, be patient with those who supply it.
