went to paris for 2 nights for valentines day just got back today. If you dont no french i strongly recommend not to go, no one can understand the slightest english, service is poor in the hotels there, food was crap in the french restuants ( best place was planet hollywood). one thing i thought they was good with was the car showrooms alot different to ours, ill post some pics up later. Anyway i would never recommend going back on eurostar to france to anyone

I disagree with pretty much everything you've said Razz Paris has a certain atmosphere that can't be matched anywhere else, especially in the summer! Nice hot summer evenings watching the world go by while sitting at a restaurant in Paris is magical.

Maybe it was the coach traveling that made you hate it, try going by plane in the summer months and spending a week there it's awesome Thumbs Up

Plenty of lunatics on bikes there wheelying over the bridges aswell.pretty sure I saw the R2O guys there once.

you don't need to go to up market restaurants to get amazing food in france. some of the best i'v had is from family run places.

France has some awesome places if you get away from the cities. I've not been to Paris since I was 18 but it great to submerse yourself in the culture, eat the food, drink the beer and see the sights.

i cant stand the place either. People go on about how french food is the finest in the world, but whenever i've tried it i've found it to be less than nice - but then in a country that eats frogs, snails and horses i guess im not surprised.

i don't get it, it's a lot of english speaking cultures that say france is shit. that they're ignorant etc... but what the people fail to realise, is the points that they've put out is exactly the manner they're trying to make are expressed in the way that they're trying to defame.

I stayed in Hotel Concorde La Fayette (spelling?) for £45 LOL, it's one of the largest hotels in Paris and one of the most expensive, i paid peanuts.

The view i had was the Eiffel tower and the Arc....looked amazing, i had a really romantic time there with the GF at Christmas a couple of years back.
I must admit the food isn't brilliant in most restaurants, they seem to think ham and cheese on toast is something special.

One night i took Liz to the Tower, had a walk along the water and then went into a really fancy restaurant, i wouldn't look silly and leave, i had to do it. The food was fantastic, apart from the Oysters, which is like drinking cold phlem. But they did they job Wink

Is it any more arrogant than going to a foreign country and expecting the natives to talk to you in your language?

I have to read your posts twice to understand them, I'm not bloody surprised they didn't understand what you were saying.
I don't suppose for a second you tried to learn a couple of phrases to at least show you were trying to make an effort?
It goes a long way in a foreign country.

Lets just face it, An Englishman is always an Englishman no matter wher he goes, the rest are always Johny foreigners. English does tend to be the universal language of the world, A german, frenchman, idian, chineseman and a welshman can all communicate with each other by learning just one language................ Arabic. Laughing

They should when you know full well that the ones you are speaking to do speak English.

I too have found the French to be pretty rude at times. Even when you make the attempt to speak their language they are totally dismissive about it and make like they can't understand you because you got a gender or tense wrong. (my French is pretty poor and my vocab. is very limited but my accent is ok, I've been assured by a fluent French speaker that what I do say is understandable if not gramatically correct.)

The trouble is, they have a total bug up their arse about why the rest of the world doesn't speak French. It's the only country in the world that doesn't use English for air traffic control for example, serious accidents have happened because of this.

In many ways, we should be more like the French in my oppinion, they have a very much 'look after number one and the hell with the rest of the world' attitude. It doesn't excuse being rude to visitors though.

The Japanese embassy has to carry out emergency medical repatriations of several of its citizens every year after they suffer a nervous breakdown because they can't cope with the rudeness of the French (Parisiens in particular).

basically like any stuck up knobber in england is when someone who speaks a different language attempts poorly to speak english and they can't understand it?

not totally defending the french here. yes i know a lot of them can be wankers when it comes to talking english.

like i said just up there- it strikes me as odd that people are saying other cultures are shit towards english speaking people (specifically french here), when the point they're trying poorly to put across is done in the manner they're trying to say is not acceptable.
