Or can I use a blob of araldite to fix my bloat on my fuel gauge mechanism?

I think you're ok as long as you steer away from any of the quick-setting domestic stuff. i.e. use the more butch engineering chemical metal types.

What he said. Araldite is an epoxy resin and so is pretty much anything proof. Chemical metal would be better though. JB-weld is the best but others work well too. Araldite do their own version which is much nicer to work with than the adhesive and pretty strong (you can even drill and tap it), not as heat resistant as JB weld though.

The sediment bowl on my CB125 fuel tap consisted of around 50% araldite chemical metal (because the bottom screwed off it rather then the bowl itself unscrewing from the tap). Lasted over 2 years and never leaked, I eventually found one at the breakers and replaced it.

JB Weld is 100% fuel-proof once cured. It says so on their website.

Araldite does get affected by petroleum-based products afaik. Methanol affects it for sure.
