Well after looking at getting someone to deliver a bike for me. I'm looking at the idea of getting a cheap flight down and hiring a van to drive back myself.

So does anyone have any suggestions for which companies to try? The airport I'll be landing at will be Gatwick. I need a drop off point somewhere in Central Scotland.

The cheaper the better basically. Also does anyone know if a bike will fit in the back of the small vans that these places usually offer? Or will it have to be the larger van?

Sixt or National both do what you're after.

It does cost more though.

How about hiring a van at your end and doing both ways, could be cheaper.
Or how about getting a MOT sorted locally where the bike is, then tax it and ride home. Might require a overnight stop, but could well be a cheaper option.

I hired a car recently when a flight of mine got diverted from Bristol to Gatwick and I had to drive to Bristol to pick my car up.

All the hire Companies I approached offered a pick up/drop off service - as long as they've got a Premise where you're going it shouldn't be a problem. I ended up using Hertz as they had Premises at both Airports. Picked the vehicle up at Gatwick and just dropped the vehicle off as normal at Bristol Airport (thankfully Easy Jet ended up paying Wink ).

If you going to get a van i would make sure you have a job lot of ratchet tie down straps, a lot of vans lack good tie down points, make sure it will fit in and make sure you can get it in, you may need a ramp of some sort.
Personally i would price it all up first then compare it against a company that would transport it for you, there are some on ebay that offer this service ,check the feedback first though, worth a look in bike trader as well.
