My helmet seems huuuge when its on, even though its a good fit (Its a HJC). Are there any helmets on the market that obviously offer great protection but have a thinner shell\padding? (does that make sense?)

I dont want wafer thin but same time I dont want to look like Frank Sidebottom

All helmets seem huge at first, but once you get used to them it's fine! AFAIK the padding etc has to be a certain thickness to be ACU approved and road legal, not sure though!

Arai do make helmets with different shell sizes, however, this is to improve the fit for smaller sized heads - so I doubt you'll find anything that feels 'smaller' on. The only other thing to check is the weight of the helmet, I have ended up with a very light shark RXsomethingorother which I barely notice when I'm wearing it.

It does feel like you have a great big lollypop head to start with, but you'll soon get used to it.

IMO your helmet should feel smaller at first and will get bigger as you were it.

a bigger helmet wont get smaller.

I know what you mean. I got a hjc lid and it does seem comedically large. It's nice and comfy, but it just makes me feel like I should be sat on easter island looking out to sea.

you should have bought a lid that comes in different shell sizes. You could have one that fits inside but has a one size fits all shell. Its too late to change now. As long as it fits properly inside dont worry about it.

I know, what i meant was they feel huge in general...Having something like a goldfish bowl stuck on your head is bound to feel weird, whether you've never ridden before, or whether it's a different make of lid. They all feel odd at first Thumbs Up
