hey all, Yesterday i bought a Mk2 Golf. Its a 1.6 with Weber carbs and polished cylinders. I went to go out for a spin in the car yesterday night. But i found that i could not find dipped beam. I can get main beam or side lights! Through trial and error i found that if i put the sidelight switch on and repeatly click the main beam on/off switch, it will sometimes find dipped but then will randomly click off!! Anybody owned/ owns a mk2 golf could you please give me some pointers.
thanks in advance
phil.

I'd suggest a dedicated VW forum like www.edition38.com as they'll probably know wots wrong a lot faster.

Thumbs Up

try the forums.. like www.volkszone.com or what DucatiEVO suggusted. if its a random connected then its got to be a lose connection. Trace the entire connection and replace or scrapy if need be. Sorry if this seems to be obvious. or maybe check ALL the fuses. get a haynes manual too.

I got a vw T25..need to override the oil light buzz function..it comes on after 5 minutes..loud music does the trick for a while but its apparently a common fault on all T25's.. strange I thought vw's where popular cause they are well designed and made.

I've got a mk2 Golf 1.3. Your main light switch is at the right hand side panel beside the clocks above the ignition, pushed in once gets your side lights, pushed 2 clicks to the back puts the headlights on. To turn dip/beam on or off you click the left indicator stalk towards you. Not sure why it would be randomly clicking off, but the electrics on them can give bother.

Have you any pictures of it out of interest?

Maybe try a different switch gear unit. I had this problem in my Mini. Turned out it was a duff terminal inside the switch gear. Replacing it solved the problem. Thumbs Up

Technically the driver must have held his/her licence for atleast 3 years.

You should also be insured on the vehicle yourself.
I never was in my learning months. But legally speaking I think the Learner must be insured unless its a specific Learning Vehicle.

Err, not in the UK you are not. Must be 17 to drive a car even accompanied (and it must be insured for you to drive).

All the best

There's a few boy racer examples of mk2 Golfs about now but these days the style is a lot more 'euro' influenced. Wound down coilovers with subtle/standard bodywork and a set BBS or similar style wide wheels. Kits and 17s are long gone now - these days 15s are the biggest you'd get away with to be taken seriously. A few pictures of well known Golfs in the the 'dub scene', not loud at all really.
