I have a new mini-dv camcorder. It came with software (Sony) and I want to get it to DVD.

The trouble I have is that if I set the converting resolution to max it becomes jerky, if I tone it down then it smooths out but becomes pixelated/blurry. I just want the quality I see on the lcd on the unit to be what I see on the PC - only biggerer.

Is this the general theme of these things or would better software be the way forward?

Anyone else got some experience?

Last resort will be to plug it direct to the telly and video it......eurgh - VHS Sick

If I have this correctly you are trying to convert the data on the DV to PC I guess you must be using a TV card already for this to work, what is the max resolution of the DV cam?

A tv is around 680x460px (someone will correct this im sure but its near as damnit for the purpose of this post) so a lot of cams are setup to be tv resolution or lower, when you are viewing on your PC you are running at a much higher resolution so the output on full screen will be pixellated and distorted, run it windowed and scaled down:

IE if you use 1024x768 resolution have your viewing window around 50% of the size of the screen to get an idea of how it will look in full res on TV.

If I have this wrong please let me know where and I will try and help

** Just to add, have you tried converting a portion of the film and burning to DVD then trying it on the tv to see the output? **

cheers

leigh Very Happy

Are you plugging it into a Firewire card (1394)? This would be the best way to transfer the data, and even though it will look jumpy while converting, it will playback fine at TV quality (576i) although the file size will be massive, but then you can re-save it as an MPG/AVI and decide the file compression etc then.

Thumbs Up

Can you not use USB to link it up, and then use Windows movie maker to pull the video from the Camera?

This is what I used, It gets good quality video files very small. Smile Thumbs Up

Cheers for the info, I am indeed viewing the pc at a higher resolution. I will try converting to dvd and try the playback on the tv.

Thumbs Up
