Yep synch(ronising) = balancing.
Bandit and a lot of other Suzukis rear calipers are notorious for the 2 pad retaining pins seizing in the caliper, it's the way the caliper is fixed that leaves it open to all the shit thrown up. Every few months or so and more in the winter you should take the pins out and regrease them to prevent it. It doesn't stop the brakes working but you can have real problems replacing pads when the pins are welded in. There are tried and tested methods of getting them out if you do get problems but better to prevent it in the first place, it's only a 10-15 minute job to keep on top of them and saves a lot of hassle. ____________________ I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite so sure. |

My bike has been serviced a few times over the past few years.
It was previously brought from a Littlehampton garage from the last owner - Would they service it before she brought it?
Also, its only done around 3k miles since march last year - Worth a service? Or shall I just change the oil/filter ect?
On another note Bazza - The oil, you fill to the midway mark min-max. When the engine runs, the oil disappears. Stop, the oil comes back into place. All fine?
I put in 1 liter of 4t oil 3 weeks ago - now its dry again - But I have no oil leak |

They all say they service a bike before they sell it ....but it's better if you do it yourself as well then you KNOW it's been done.
You are always checking the sight glass with it on the centre stand aren't you
The oil goes round the engine when it's running so the level goes down, it's fine as long as you're between the min-max marks when it's been stopped for a bit so it's all drained back into the sump. ____________________ I used to be indecisive but now I'm not quite so sure. |

In that case what you need to do is put the bike on the centrestand and measure the gap under the rear tyre. Now find a piece of wood that is half that gap in thickness. When you want to check the oil level simply wheel the front tyre onto that plank of wood about 8 inches, then put it on the centrestand. The wheels will now be near-enough to level to check the oil.
Louise yes it's normal for the oil to disappear from the sight-glass when the engine is running. The gearbox shafts and crankshaft fling it all over the inside of the engine. ____________________ a.k.a 'Geri'

You're nitpicking dude, look at a Bandit centrestand, the sight glass is within a couple of inches of the centrestand pivot, the few degrees it's off level on the stand hardly shows at the glass and has little effect on the reading. Then if you want to be pedantic there's the issue of all the jacked up Bandits, probably more of them than standard ones, they're not level to start with. |
