NSR Rear Shock

Hi, i recently got hold of a replacement rear shock for my 01' NSR its a little bit tatty

can anyone offer any general advice for dismanteling a rear shock, i want to slide the spring off to give it a good clean and a paint, i also wana get the main body cleared up and check the strut.

does anyone have any advice?

I have tried to get the two tension rings off the top of the shock and they are on tight, i have given them a good spray with WD40 but the buggers won't budge... (yes im using the correct wrench to try and remove the two rings) damn thing lol

any help would be great
