Car oil change

I've never owned a car and never done an oil change on one.

Can you chnage the oil with just the jack you get with the car?

Also, do you need a sump plug with the washer when you change like on a bike?

Extra precaution is to chock it up next to the jack because a crushed skull would kinda smart i think

Yea FFS put something under the car as standard jacks are not too steady. Also yes you will need a new crush washer, htey are only pennies.

never ever trust a jack unless it is lockable, average cheap wheel change jacks are not, nor are they particularly stable

set of metal car ramps dont cost very much at all used, and are very useful

just be careful when driving the car up them, you need to be confident with the gas and decisive with the brakes. best to have someone guiding you from outside the car, ideal for working underneath the car on a budget though

How much is a bottle of Oil these days?
Ive not had to buy Oil as I work for Kwikfit. But just wondering, Because we charge around £20 for an oil and filter change. Surely oil and a filter cant be much cheaper than that from the shops can it?

If kwik fit charge £20 then the filter costs £3 and because of bulk buying the oil it costs £2 the 5 mins labour time adds up to a nice little profit. Remember the advert, you can't get slacker than a kwik fit fitter please don't trust us, it's because they couldn't get job's in proper garage's and have to rely on ignorance for business.
