Quote:
LARNACA, Cyprus (Reuters) - A court in Cyprus jailed a Briton for 15 years on Friday for killing a Cypriot teenager in a hit-and-run incident last year.

Julian Harrington, 39, had pleaded guilty to charges of manslaughter over the death of teenager Christos Papiris, 17, at a resort on the island in August. Two other youths charged with Harrington were acquitted by the same court last week.

The Britons were accused of using their rental car to repeatedly ram motorcyclist Papiris and drive him off a road in the resort of Protaras, causing him to crash. Harrington had been driving the car which hit the youth.

The incident followed a brawl at a nightclub involving the Britons and some locals. Police said at the time the Britons vented their anger on Papiris, who was not involved in the nightclub incident.

Scumbag. Sort of glad it happened in Cyprus, he might get punished properly. Hope he doesn't get out early.

^^ what he said. I can't understand how this was manslaughter. Murder seems more fitting. I guess the charge was lowered for the guilty plea.

I hope their justice system works differently to ours. If not, sadly he'll get time off his sentence for good behaviour and he'll also have any time spent in custody taken off.

Evil or Very Mad He should have been charged with murder though Evil or Very Mad

Murder is with intent, manslaughter isn't. Hit and run is a bloody cowardly thing to do though.

Surely the "run" part of "hit and run" is enough to prove his guilt? Still think it should be murder, you don't accidently drive into someone's motorbike over and over again!!

Sounds like they intended to. Hope it lasts all 15 years.

What is the world coming to? I mean that guy got a bit annoyed, maybe his pride was dented. The young lad got killed. And he was Cypriot, the other guy wasnt even from Cyprus! He got killed by a foreigner in his own country over some stupid tiff. The Englishman got what he deserved, and i doubt Cypriot prisons are as cosy as English ones.

Nope it even said he wasn't involved at all, seems a bit strange they would simply take their anger out on the biker for no reason, he must have provoked them one way or another, bit of roadrage maybe, but that's still no excuse. Utter cock, I hope he's beaten in that prison. Having said that, I doubt the lad was wearing a lid either, may well have saved him.

Murder is pre-meditated, so he must have thought about it befoe doing it for it to be murder.
If he happened-across his victim then killed him simply because he wanted to vent his anger right there and then, that would be manslaughter.

Murder is when you "mean" what you are doing, Manslaughter is when it's more accidental.

If he'd skidded on some oil and hit the lad then drove off, it may have been manslaughter.

Repeatedly ramming into a lad on a moped because he's pissed off about an argument he's just had is murder.

No, if he skidded on oil and that was the sole cause for the death then it would be an accident and he would not be charged with anything.

You can "mean" to kill someone, on the spur of the moment (say for instance you caught someone in bed with your cat) and it can still be manslaughter. This would be "voluntary manslaughter"

I was out in cyprus for 6 weeks and the prisons and laws out there are extreme and very harsh so rest assured he will get punished and it wont be a nice experience for him either.

My advise to anyone who goes out there, dont ride a bike people out there cannot drive.
