Hi all,

Sorry you haven't been getting your regular dose of Rookie goodness, I've been away. Wink

Anywho, I was on the train back to uni this afternoon reading their onboard magazine thing, and noticed an advert for laptop parts - www.laptopparts.co.uk, bizarrely enough, and made a quick mental note as my laptop DVD drive is on the fritz and I'd like a new one.

I got home about 2 hours later and lo and behold, my laptop won't even turn on! After a bit of trial and error I found out it's the mains cable, just the bit that plugs into the laptop, not the bit that plugs into the socket.

So I borrowed a mates cable and had a look round on this site, and not only do they not sell DVD drives, they want £41 for a knock off of the original cable! I'll be kejiggered if I'm paying that sort of money, so I turn this one over to BCF. Does anyone know where I could get one of these dirt cheap, or even better, does anyone have one going spare? I'll pay an insultingly small amount of money for one. Smile

Cheers all.

PS - It's an Acer Aspire 5002. I liked this thing when I got it, but I'm never buying one again. Brick Wall

unfortunatly your lucky my power adapter cost me £70. but if you ring the people who make it you can get them cheaper sometimes.

My laptop is made by evsham technologies and is based on the mitac chassis. its about 3yrs old now and the power adapter blow 1 month after the warrenty. So i rang mitec and they quoted me £120 Confused , So i rang delta electronics who make the power adapter, gave them the plugs Serial number and they quoted me £70. Still abit steep but better than nothing.

If you need a new DVD drive try www.ebuyer.co.uk or www.scan.co.uk.

i found this website doing power adapters: https://www.computerbatteries.co.uk/gb3/m/acer/aspire-5002.html

unless it's got some bizarre proprietory connector, then check out maplin.. they do variable output transformers with interchangeable plugs to fit most sizes.

That's the problem, it's a cloverleaf connecter so very few cables actually fit it, physically or power-wise.

After another hunt, the cheapest I can come up with is £19 or so on eBay, so I suppose that will have to do. Thanks for the help guys.
