I've fitted a similar one before - was a bit of hassle, but that was because of odd wiring on the bike.

Never got immobalisation to work.

However I'd still say it was worth it for the money - if nothing else, scaring people with remote start Very Happy.

Presuming you do get different wiring diagrams per bike and such like, looks like they might be a half decent seller.

Cheers G

How would the remote start work? Considering i have to pull in the clutch to start the bike manually.

You can probably by-pass that bit.

Depends how it works, but I suspect that will just go to some kind of relay, which will then activate the starter relay - you can just bypass the first one.

When I got some cash, might get one for my current SV road bike.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but how easy would this be to install. I've got limited experience in electronics but feel for 20 quid, it's worth the piece of mind. Anybody else had any experience with it once installed?

It all depends how well you hide the wires. Leave them on show and you may as well not bother fitting it. I strip the loom down solder the wires of the Alarm in, then re-tape the loom up so you can't tell there is any after market wiring in there.

OT, but a while ago I remember someone posted about a shacle lock with built in pager, their boss built as a prototype, but I liked the idea and and started looking for one but had no joy, anyone know if there is such a thing out there?

Cheers. Thumbs Up

Edit, and from that pic, looks like the same chinese alarm I got for my previous Hyosung Hyper, but in a different box, the bike was korean, thealarm was chinese... Laughing Laughing Laughing

Aside from hiding the wires, how easy is it to install the alarm and what are the basic stages required, wires go to where. I know at this point somebody's going to ask for a wiring diagram, but if anybody would care to explain to me the basics before i by it, i would be eternally grateful! Thumbs Up

Hey,
Fitting an alarm is very simple. If you just want basic features its as easy as installing +ve to +ve battery and -ve to -ve battery. Occasionally a 12v +ve feed is required from ur bike.

Imobiliser was very straight forward too. The common +ve on the coils was cut in half then the imobiliser wires fitted. When the alarm is active the +ve to the coils is effectively cut.

Im no electrical expert but still managed to wire my whole alarm into my bike in under 2 hours, and make it look part of the loom and bike.

Personally i would not both messing with remote start. Its just a tarty extra that factors in something else to go wrong and leave u stranded.

Cheers,
Shaun.

cheers shaun.

Guess 20 quid aint worth a lot considering the peace of mind it'll offer. Mite have to get a decent battery to boot just to make sure it doesn't give me stick.

Hey,

No problem Thumbs Up

The alarm i use is this one:

https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHEETAH-High-Tech-Motorcycle-Alarm-System-Immobiliser_W0QQitemZ320086513680QQihZ011QQcategoryZ25643QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item320086513680

I've had others off ebay and they've been cheap and nasty. Cheetah alarms are very good quality. I've never had one fail on me or leave me stranded.

The only problem i've had with alarms, of all makes, is that they do tend to drain ur battery. This isn't a problem if you use ur bike everyday. However if you leave it for a prolonged period of time, the battery will be drained. To combat this i use an optimate connection on the battery and periodically give the battery a charge. Just remeber to switch the alarm off, otherwise it may decide that someones trying to hotwire ur bike.

Cheers,
Shaun.

I have the same cyclone alarm, the basic function is easy to install if you make sure you wire the indicators together properly (dumb ass mistake in the first place)

I have still to wire in the immobiliser which I will be doing when i have the safety of a multimeter (in fact anyone else ACTUALLY fitted one of these to confirm how difficult it it?)

To use remote starting you need 1 20amp relay and for total keyless remote starting you need 2 x 20amp relays and a 100ohm resistor (well for my bike i do anyhoo)

The good news is you can do this in stages so you get the basic functions working, then the immobiliser and then add the trick bits after if you need them.

cheers

leigh Very Happy

My god i completely forgot about this thread.

Anyway the alarm itself was easy to install, as said above its just + and - wires to corresponding battery terminals and then wiring to the indicators.

There is an anti hyjack feature aswell that needs plumbing into the - wire of the kill switch.

And i couldn't be bothered with the remote start so i wired it up into the live ignition with a relay and use that as the immobilizer, its quite cool when you turn on the ignition at the key no lights come up on the dash untill you push the button on the remote then it all lights up.

Out of interest what kind of relay did you use (where from and price etc??)

How easy was adding the immobiliser - as easy as the alarm function?

cheers

Got a Datatool system 4 on my bike, and although it's expensive - the alarm fob which also holds the bike key is a wicked idea. Cool

They're relatively simple to fit, once you have found out where the appropriate bits on the loom are. My mate fitted the alarm + immobiliser + remote start in little under an hour. Most of the time we spent taking the fuel tank off to find the appropriate wiring loom. The remote start is a novel idea, and i've used the circuit which doesn't invlove bypassing the sidestand and neutral and ignition switches, so that it's just if i'm not bothered to press the starter button.

The cheetah/cyclone alarms aint too bad for the 30 odd quid you pay for them and they seem to do the job.
