Hello,

Right ive just bought a car for a 'motor trader'. I believe he bought it as part ex for another car. I have the V5 but the registered keeper is not the motor trader, its the person whom sold it to the garage. The registered keeper has not signed it to say it has been sold on, so he is still the registered keeper.
Is it necessary to make the motor trader the registered keeper and then send the V5 off again, to say that the motor trader has now sold it on to me. Or would it be ok to just get the dealer to get the previous owner to sign the V5 and make me the registered keeper, by passing the fact the dealer was the keeper for so many weeks.

Thanks
Ls

Whatever. Razz

Just put a signature in the bit for the 'current owner', fill in your details, then just send it off to the DVLA and wait for your new V5 to arrive. Least hassle. Thumbs Up

There used to be something about Motor traders not needing to inform the DVLA for a while in case they sold the car while the V5 was away. The previous owner should have given all the parts of the V5 EXCEPT the sale to a motor trader which they (the seller) should have sent to DVLA.

You should be able to find more info here

I don't think you'll have a problem registering it, DVLA come across this quite a lot, and at the end of the day it's not caused by anything you've done or not done.

I've just part-exed my car with a dealer and I had to get him to fill in the yellow bit of the V5 which I then posted back to the DVLA myself.

I asked him if I needed to sign the main page for the next owner and he said no, by the time they sell it on (unless they get very lucky! Mr. Green ) the DVLA will know it is in their posession and a previous keeper signature is not required.

If the V5 he gives you doesn't have the yellow bit on it, send it in with just your sig. if it does then the dealer or previous keeper hasn't done the paperwork properly and like Ste suggested just squiggle something in the box.

You can just get a V62 form and send it off with the new keeper's supplement. Free and the new V5 will appear in the post in a few weeks time. Just done it myself.

Unless they "lose" the V62 with supplement and tell you that you need to send in another V62, with a cheque for £19 Neutral
