I do the same but with scottoil (somehow I ended up with a lot of bottles of the stuff).
Can't be arsed to fit an actual scottoiler to the bike, as this is working well enough for me. Just take it easy on the left handers for a few miles until all the excess has sprayed off then it usually lasts for months. ____________________ 3516 Miles, 11 Countries |

Hi
One thing to do if a bike is going to be off the road for a while (or has been off the road for a while) is to soak the chain in old engine oil. I have done this quite a few times. Tie a piece of string around one end of the chain, and then dump the chain into you waste oil can (a close to full one), keeping hold of the piece of string. The close the cap. Normally you can trap the string in the cap so that the chain doesn't totally drop into the can. Then just leave it to soak. Not a problem if the bike is going to be off the road for months as it will be well protected.
Then when you come to use the chain again, take it out of the bottle and wipe the worst of the oil off, then put it back on the bike. It is likely to make a fair mess at first but should not do the normal trick of stretching rapidly that chains normally have when they have been unused for a while.
All the best

chain lube and all that stuff is a bit CRAP i doesnt penetrate in to the links, the best stuff is THICK 80/90 oil brushed on and then wipe of the excess in a few min. also there is no point just slapping more oil on a grit filled dirty chain u need to clean it eveyso offen, petrol will do the job.
