You may have read my post about my hand having been savagely bit by my cat, whom I have raised since he was a kitten.

Well, now he's pissed on my leather jacket. I could have killed him then and I could still kill him now.

Any advice as to how to tame the savage beast? You may well be saving his life as I've only recently pondered taking him to the pound and that will surely be the end of the line for him.

He's just under two years, is still whole as a male and has otherwise been an excellent companion and pet.

Right there is the root of your problem. I guess he's marking his territory etc, so if you were to remove his "urges" he wouldn't be so territorial??

Yup, have to agree. Unless you are planning on breeding him get him "done". Really you should have sorted this at about 6-8 months as he will now have formed some spraying/marking habits that might still take some time to break.

If he's spraying in any particular places I recommend putting some scrunched-up tinfoil down where he likes to "go", cats hate to pee on it and generally after the first time will not go there again.......

One time I had a cat, I left him sitting in my bedroom to go and answer the door .. came back to find him sitting on my bed, looking quite proud of himself, in a damp puddle.

I wasn't pleased.

Hah, Yeah. I threaten to remove them every time he's naughty. So far the only thing he's sprayed is my riding jacket but that's more than enough cause for a de-sacking if you ask me. Thanks for the replies.

Just to confirm it one last time. Balls off, ASAP. That is my official, professional oppinion.

As babyyam says, it may take some time before he stops spraying etc.. On the plus side, his urine will smell considerably less pungent after a couple of weeks

I just got my cat done after he pissed on the bed and kept coming home at night looking like he'd done a round of boxing!

A couple of days after the op he's a different cat! Very loving again and sits on his chair asleep all day only going out to do his business.

The sooner you get it done the better as they can sometimes get stuck in their ways.

Good luck Thumbs Up

I know it's harsh, Tom, but it's a last resort in this case. I could have easily throttled the poor guy both for when he knawed on my hand and for when he moistened my jacket. I'm sure I'll have to use restraint once again when the bill from the doctor arrives. In short, I'd rather have 99% of my kitty than 100% of his corpse after he does his next dirty deed. And, yes, I have anger issues. Embarassed

You should be castrating Tom cats as a matter of routine at 6 months old.

They don't even know what they're for at this age.

I would go so far as to say it is socialy irresponsable to be keeping an entire Tom cat as a pet. It will wander for miles impregnating any females it can find. It will also pick fights with any other cats in your area.

It is better for you, your cat and the cat population in general to have them neutered. It is a fairly cheap, safe and minor procedure. Takes less than five minutes to do the actual operation and the cut is so small it doesn't even require stitching. The biggest part of the cost is the anaesthetic, which, being a young healthy cat, is low risk.

*Balls off*

I didnt like the idea with our Kat - Not that I see her much.
But, yea very much the same - Spray to mark her area, very bitchy feline and would meow at 4am because she needed humping.

She got done, 2 days after she was much better Thumbs Up

Get used to riding around in the smell of cats piss.

My Brown leather was 'aged' by my kitten several times over the years. Handily there is usually a storm/rain thingy cme along pretty quickly... I just had to leave it outside in the weather for long enough.

You can get him done and clean the litterbox everyday but if your cat is anything like my kitten then your jacket will be pissed on as a matter of political protest.

My first cat I felt much like you do but as my flatmate who owned Widget sister put it - "it is his balls or your balls..."

In the end it was probably best for him, however I recomend you sucker someone else into picking the cat up from the Vets. Widge hated the person who picked him up but never had a problem with me dropping him off.

Make a pair of mittens? ONe with his head-end on, and the other with his tail-end? I'm sure they'll look damn hot and very dashing.

You mustnt get rid of him! There are too many cats without homes and theres a simple answer to this problem as others said, he is spraying and you need to get him neutured. Its just teritorial behavior, my dads cat Jessy used to do it (back in the day that he way my cat) but we had him neutured and he is such a loverly cat, really adorable.

(Getting him neutured will also help the general 'too many cats without homes' situation, so you would be doing a good deed)

Thumbs Up
