 |

I'm planning to be in Munich for the entire month of July this year. July being the height of summer, I don't really want to miss out on biking. Especially with the great roads that'll be down that way.
So far the plan is to take the bike from Rosyth (Scotland) to Zeebrugge (Belgium) via ferry. I've found a place that lets bikes go free on this route.
Now to keep the mileage to a minimum, I would like to get the bike onto a train to Munich (or as close as) as soon as possible after Zeebrugge. This is where I have no clue what do do next.
I could ride it all the way once over the water, but that's probably going to mean new tyres by the time I get there.
Any one ever done something like this? ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing  |

So a new set of tyres only lasts around 500 miles.......
Link
Try google as it brings up a few links to trains, but most seem to be for cars. You would need to contact the train co for further details. ____________________ Just because my bike was A DIVVY, does not mean i am...... |

That's quite useful. Never knew it was only 500 miles away. I think I'm gonna go and get a copy of autoroute and plan it the route. ____________________ Honda NSR125R -> Suzuki GSXR400R GK76a -> Kawasaki ZX636 B1H -> Honda CBR400RR NC29 -> Nothing |

off topic but..
There was "Moto-train" in japan from 1986 to 1998, overnight train from Tokyo to Hokkaido. (2 goods wagons for bikes were connected to overnight train"hakkoda"). It costed about 40000-5000yen, took 27Hrs, had to empty the petrol tank before loading.
While car ferry is only 10000yen, takes 20Hrs, no need to empty the tank. Plus we can relax and enjoy more on the ferry than on the train. (walk around, play video game, have a bath)
There was no special merit compared to ferry, so "Moto-train" disappeared.
Hokkaido is nice place to ride during summer for many riders but it's very wide, so some rider use ferry to go to Hokkaido not to loose power before main touring. If he trys to ride on the highway to go there, it costs him 13000yen for highway toll, 40L petrol for 800km + 5000yen/3Hr ferry to go across the channel.
Only train can go through undersea tunnel (like euro tunnel).
This is the biggest disincentive for riding to Hokkaido from Tokyo, and ferry is favored by many riders. |

Surely keeping mileage to a minimum defeats the whole point? I mean christ, the best way to keep mileage to a minimum is to lock the garage door and throw away the key, but that's no fun is it. ____________________ Photos and that |
