The restrictor on the imported bikes is on the CDI (Capacitor Discharge thingy). To derestrict you need to cut this open and remove a wire. Thing is there is nothing anywhere telling you which wire to cut. Let me know if you find out which one it is cos i am dyeing to know!!

STOP people,

imports nsrs, do as the guide tells u and ull get 85mph, for the rest its the CDI tat needs replacing with a uk one, or you can override the power valve and have it oping fulling and u loose soom torque, u decide,

if u want a CDI unit try a breakers (make sure its a uk model)

You cant do wot the guide says cos the restrictions just arent there. I looked!! I asked a honda dealer and he told me the thing about the CDI and the wire (see above). I have a fone number at honda to call. They can tell me wot wire it is and i will post it here when i know.

I'm from St.Albans!

I finaly got thru to honda. They say they dont tell anyone that information, you have to replace the CDI with a European one (Italian i guess).

Anyone speak Italian???

I think I might just cut it open and do some trial and error wire removal and replacement! Will keep you all posted!

ok boys!! Here it is! I have tried the trial and error thing and nothing worked. I have bought a CDI unit from a scrappy (I am hoping it is from a UK spec bike). Going to fit it soon as i have a minute free.

If anyone else fancies trying the trial and error thingy go ahead! I heard on the grapevine that there is a blue wire in one of the connectors going into the CDI. Remove that from the connector and it is supposed to derestrict it. My bike just didnt start but I may have the wrong wire.

GO FOR IT NSR BUDDIES!! GOOD LUCK! Very Happy

Hi

A blue wire is, generally, an earth wire.

The RS125 has a restricted cdi unit which can be derestricted by digging out a bit of sealant and cutting a wire inside (only on the Rotax 122 engined bikes, and not all cdi units can be done), and some people probably get confused with the NSR. On the Aprilia it is there for noise test reasons and gives a large flat spot between 5000 and 6000, but has no effect outside that range.

If anyone has a wiring diagram have a close look and see if there are any wires from the speedo to the cdi or from the gearbox to the cdi

All the best

Keith

Hey Guys!

Sorry I havent posted for a while.

The latest news it that according to Honda there are new laws in place that state 125 motorcycles can no longer be derestricted. If you buy them with 12hp then thats what you live with. I wasnt impressed when I heard that!

I tried my import bike with a UK CDI unit the other day and there was no difference. I think we will just have to admit defeat on this one and buy bigger bikes.

If anyone has any earth shattering news on this topic please post it as I am at a loss.

Yeah? I hope I am wrong but I have tried everything and no joy!

Please someone tell me I am wrong and how to do it. I cant really afford to buy a new bike but 85mph isnt fast enough for a track!

How do you restrict them?

Hi

There are no laws I can think of to prevent you derestricting your bike. Yes legally you need a licence and insurance for the modified vehicle. There has been talk about type approval laws being used to prevent such mods but I dont think anything has come of it (yet)

All the best

Keith
