PostPosted: 10:17 - 16 Feb 2007    Post subject: 2007 Summer tour plans Reply with quote

Last year, a group of us spent about 10 days blatting about the South of France.

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=87449

I'm in the process of planning a similar trip for this summer.

The plan so far...

27th August:
Get the Eurotunnel late afternoon, early evening and then ride to Lille: 74 miles
28th August:
392 miles to Stuttgart
29th August:
212 miles to See, near Lambeck
30th August:
205 miles to Milan
31st August:
163 miles to Briancon
Saturday 1st Sept:
154 miles to the Gite, which is in the Gorges Du Verdon

7 nights in the Gite, then blast back up to calais for Sunday Evening (9th Sept.).

total cost per person/per bike (assuming a solo rider) estimated at: £800 - £900 for the fortnight inc accom, fuel and food.

that IS an estimate, but for 5 days touring, and 7 nights in a Gite with a pool and BBQ on Europes deepest Gorge (and a spectacular one at that) isn't bad.

It's near the road that Jezzer Clarckson raced the Climber in that Audi.

I'm hoping to get things booked asap. I'm planning on 8 spaces atm. I'd not like to do a long tour with more than 8 bikes. Last year we were 6 bike, and that was fine. Rideouts I've been on with 10,12 or more bikes tend to get bropken up and slow down the day. ON a 5 day tour, we can't really afford that.

Drop me a PM if you're SERIOUSLY interested. So far, I've got 5 definates, so I don't want to muck about the existed interested parties if you're not commited to coming.

There's a googleearth file of the route attached.

Most days are around 200 miles.. we dont' hang about, and that pretty much fills the day on the twisty alpine routes we intend taking.. but that being said.. noone was going at silly speeds last year (were we?, apart from the last buit of autoroute to alleviate the boredom on the way back up Wink )

plenty of stops for photo ops and catchup breaks tho.

Once we're at the gite in the gorges, yo ucan go play till your hearts content on some of the most spectacular roads i've found.

MrsHippy is certainly not the fastest rider in the world. It's fast enough to not be boring, but slow enough to be safe. Although like Feef said we did break the bordom on the Autoroute at one point (I saw 145 on my GPS and the Blackbird was still pulling Twisted Evil), however that was very much the exception to the rule.

I'll second that Thumbs Up the road up to the gorge from Nice is fantastic.

Sounds like a good trip, its predicted to be scorching down here this summer mind, so an airy/light jacket is a must Smile

Boing: bounce....

One place left people... roll up roll up...

After that's gone, I'll start a 'reserve' list for anyone that's interested in case someone backs out for whatever reason.

I'd like to start making reservations soon..

If you'd like to see what we got up to last year, check out....

Hello Chaps (......esses),

I can certainly vouch for last years run - Superb. I myself am itching to get back out there but will have to give it a miss this year as I'm abroad working. Anyway, I've sold the bike as I'm not going to be using it for the next 2 years - boo hoo.

The roads are awesome and twisty. I really learned to ride my bike out there. Fond memories.

Have a fantastic time, and make sure you keep the site updated. Pics please, just so I can get jealous !!!!!!!!

Leigh (Niff).

It's a pity you won't be joining us this year, who's going to take up the call of 'more beer?' every 15 mins when we are around the pool?

Still, myself and Feef are already sketching out plans for a trip in 2008, so maybe you will be able to make that one Thumbs Up

I really fancy it but it will depend on the money situation at the time.

What's happening with the accommodation, is it being pre booked or being booked as you get to the destination?

I've been meaning to get of my ass and do something like this for a year or so now, going with people who have a idea of the roads would certainly being a plus seeing as I've never ridden in foreign lands before.

We are planning to prebook this year (except maybe for the F1 Motels). The last thing we want it to find ourselves trying to find a hotel that can take 8 of us in the middle of the Austiran alps after a days riding Shocked

We are toying with the idea of Warsaw or Prague, but at the moment it's all very sketchy.

If you go a little off the major routes you shouldn't have a problem I don't think, while I was there hotels on the quieter passes seemed to be mainly relying on winter ski-trade and weren't busy in summer.

Yeh it a real shame. Mike, the onus is on you to keep up the beerage consumption !! (I know you're secretly happy as now you'll be the undisputed champ at 'water-ball' - or whatever we called that game Razz )

I'm actually due back in the UK full time in March 2009, but I might be able to make it next year. I'm also really gutted at not making the Rock n Blues too. Still, its only a temporary abscence.

Have a great time guys !!!!!

Bugger. Confused

I plan on doing a lot of touring when I get home, That trip to France has whetted my appetite mate.

Dont know if it'll be on a ZX6 though as my missus is expressing an interest. So I'll be after something a bit roomier for a pillion but still a bit sporty.

Loved the firestorm, maybe something along those lines.

Ah well, maybe you'll get something sorted nest year eh? (I'll still be away though, but at least I can look at the piccies).

Task it easy

Mr. Green
